ಹಾಗಾದರೆ ನಾವು ಏನು ಹೇಳೋಣ? ನ್ಯಾಯ ಪ್ರಮಾಣವು ಪಾಪವೋ? ಹಾಗೆ ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಅಲ್ಲ; ನ್ಯಾಯಪ್ರಮಾಣದಿಂದಲೇ ಹೊರತು ಪಾಪವೆಂಬದು ಏನೋ ನನಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಯಾಕಂದರೆ--ನೀನು ಆಶಿಸಬಾರದು ಎಂದು ನ್ಯಾಯಪ್ರಮಾಣವು ಹೇಳ ದಿದ್ದರೆ ದುರಾಶೆಯೆಂದರೆ ಏನೋ ನನಗೆ ತಿಳಿಯು ತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ.

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Howbeit, I had not known sin, except through the law: for I had not known coveting, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet:
