ಅವರು ಅದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಆಶ್ಚ ರ್ಯಪಟ್ಟರು; ಅವರು ಕಳವಳಪಟ್ಟು ಓಡಿ ಹೋದರು.

ಕರ್ತನು ಪಾಳೆಯದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಅರಾಮ್ಯರಿಗೆ ರಥಗಳ ಶಬ್ದವೂ ಕುದುರೆಗಳ ಶಬ್ದವೂ ಮಹಾಸೈನ್ಯದ ಶಬ್ದವೂ ಕೇಳಲ್ಪಡುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವರು ಒಬ್ಬರಿಗೊ ಬ್ಬರು--ಇಗೋ, ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿನ ಅರಸನು ನಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೀಳಲು ಹಿತ್ತಿಯರ ಅರಸುಗಳನ್ನೂ ಐಗುಪ್ತದ ಅರಸುಗಳನ್ನೂ ಕೂಲಿಗೆ ಕರೆದಿದ್ದಾನೆ ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡರು.

ಅದೇ ರಾತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಏನಾಯಿತಂದರೆ, ಕರ್ತನ ದೂತನು ಹೊರಟು ಅಶ್ಶೂರಿನ ದಂಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಲಕ್ಷ ಎಂಭತ್ತೈದು ಸಾವಿರ ಜನರನ್ನು ಸಂಹರಿಸಿದನು. ಉದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನರು ಎದ್ದಾಗ ಇಗೋ, ಅವರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಸತ್ತು ಹೆಣಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
