ಹೆಬ್ರೋನಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ದಾವೀದನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಈಷ್ಬೋ ಶೆತನ ತಲೆಯನ್ನು ತಂದು ಅರಸನಿಗೆ--ಇಗೋ, ನಿನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಿದ ನಿನ್ನ ಶತ್ರುವಾಗಿದ್ದ ಸೌಲನ ಮಗನಾದ ಈಷ್ಬೋಶೆತನ ತಲೆಯು. ಈ ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ತನು ಅರಸನಾದ ನಮ್ಮ ಒಡೆಯನಿಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಸೌಲ ನಿಗೂ ಅವನ ಸಂತಾನಕ್ಕೂ ಮುಯ್ಯಿತೀರಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ ಅಂದರು.

ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕುವದಕ್ಕೆ ಸೌಲನು ಹೊರಟನೆಂದು ದಾವೀದನು ತಿಳಿದಾಗ ತಾನು ಜೀಫ್ ಎಂಬ ಅಡವಿಯೊಳಗೆ ಅರಣ್ಯದ ಒಂದು ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದನು.

ಪರಲೋಕವೇ, ಪರಿಶುದ್ಧರಾದ ಅಪೊಸ್ತಲರೇ, ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳೇ, ಅವಳ ವಿಷಯವಾಗಿ ಆನಂದಪಡಿರಿ. ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ನಿಮ್ಮ ನಿಮಿತ್ತವಾಗಿ ದೇವರು ಇವಳಿಗೆ ಪ್ರತಿ ದಂಡನೆಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದನು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿತು.

ದೇವರಾದು ಕೊಂಡವರು ಆತನಿಗೆ ಹಗಲು ರಾತ್ರಿ ಮೊರೆಯಿಡು ವಾಗ ಆತನು ಅವರ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳವಾಗಿ ತಡಮಾಡಿದರೂ ಅವರ ನ್ಯಾಯವನ್ನು ತೀರಿಸದೆ ಇರುವನೇ?

ದಾವೀದನ ಜನರು ಅವನಿಗೆ--ಇಗೋ, ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನ ಶತ್ರುವನ್ನು ನಿನ್ನ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳಿಗೆ ಸರಿತೋರುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡುವದಕ್ಕೆ ಅವನನ್ನು ನಿನ್ನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಡುವೆನೆಂದು ಕರ್ತನು ನಿನಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದ ದಿವಸವು ಇದೇ ಅಂದರು. ಆಗ ದಾವೀದನು ಎದ್ದು ಹೋಗಿ ಏಕಾಂತವಾಗಿ ಸೌಲನ ನಿಲುವಂಗಿಯ ಅಂಚನ್ನು ಕತ್ತರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡನು.

ದಾವೀದನು ರಾಮದ ನಯೋತಿನಿಂದ ಓಡಿಹೋಗಿ ಯೋನಾತಾನನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ಅವನ ಮುಂದೆ--ನಾನು ಏನು ಮಾಡಿದೆನು? ನನ್ನ ಅಕ್ರಮವೇನು? ನಿನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯು ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣ ವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆಯುವ ಹಾಗೆ ನಾನು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಪಾಪವೇನು ಅಂದನು.

ತಿರಿಗಿ ಸೌಲನು ದಾವೀದನನ್ನು ನೋಡುವದಕ್ಕೋಸ್ಕರ ದೂತರನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಿ--ಅವ ನನ್ನು ನಾನು ಕೊಂದುಹಾಕುವ ಹಾಗೆ ನೀವು ಮಂಚದ ಸಂಗಡ ಅವನನ್ನು ನನ್ನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ಬನ್ನಿರಿ ಅಂದನು.

ಆದರೆ ಸೌಲನ ಮಗನಾದ ಯೋನಾತಾನನು ದಾವೀದನನ್ನು ಬಹಳವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದನು; ಯೋನಾತಾನನು ದಾವೀದನಿಗೆ--ನನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯಾದ ಸೌಲನು ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲಬೇಕೆಂದು ಹುಡುಕುತ್ತಾನೆ; ನೀನು ನಾಳೆ ಬೆಳಗಿನವರೆಗೆ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆ ಯಾಗಿದ್ದು ಮರೆಯಾದ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡಗಿಕೋ.

ಆಗ ಸೌಲನು ದಾವೀದನನ್ನು ಗೋಡೆಗೆ ಹತ್ತಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಹೊಡೆಯುವೆನೆಂದು ಈಟಿಯನ್ನು ಎಸೆದನು. ಆದರೆ ದಾವೀದನು ಎರಡು ಸಾರಿ ಅವನ ಸಮ್ಮುಖದಿಂದ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡನು.
