ಕರ್ತನು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿಗೆ ಒಬ್ಬ ರಕ್ಷಕ ನನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವರು ಅರಾಮ್ಯರ ಕೈಯಿಂದ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋದರು. ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಮುಂಚಿನ ಹಾಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಡೇರೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಇದ ಲ್ಲದೆ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿನ ದೇವರಾದ ಕರ್ತನು ಗತ್ಹೇಫೆ ರಿನವನಾದ ಪ್ರವಾದಿಯಾಗಿರುವ ಅಮಿತ್ತೈನ ಮಗ ನಾದ ಯೋನನೆಂಬ ತನ್ನ ಸೇವಕನ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ಹೇಳಿದ ವಾಕ್ಯದ ಪ್ರಕಾರವೇ ಅವನು ಹಮಾತಿನ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ಮೊದಲುಗೊಂಡು ಬಯಲಿನ ಸಮುದ್ರದ ವರೆಗೂ ಇರುವ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿನ ಮೇರೆಯನ್ನು ತಿರಿಗಿ ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡನು.

ಆಗ ಯೆಹೋವಾಹಾಜನ ಮಗನಾದ ಯೋವಾ ಷನು ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯಾದ ಯೆಹೋ ವಾಹಾಜನ ಕೈಯಿಂದ ಹಜಾಯೇಲನು ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಪಟ್ಟಣಗಳನ್ನು ಅವನ ಮಗನಾದ ಬೆನ್ಹದದನ ಕೈ ಯಿಂದ ತಿರಿಗಿ ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡನು. ಯೋವಾಷನು ಅವನನ್ನು ಮೂರು ಸಾರಿ ಹೊಡೆದು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿನ ಪಟ್ಟಣ ಗಳನ್ನು ತಿರಿಗಿ ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡನು.

ಈ ದಿನ ದಾವೀದನ ಪಟ್ಟಣದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಮಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಒಬ್ಬ ರಕ್ಷಕನು ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾನೆ; ಆತನು ಕರ್ತನಾಗಿರುವ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನೇ.

ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ಪೂರ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೌಲನು ಅರಸನಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ನೀನು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲನ್ನು ಹೊರಗೆ ನಡಿಸುವವನಾಗಿಯೂ ಒಳಗೆ ತರುವವ ನಾಗಿಯೂ ಇದ್ದಿ; ಕರ್ತನಾದ ನಿನ್ನ ದೇವರು ನಿನಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದು--ನೀನು ನನ್ನ ಜನರಾದ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರನ್ನು ಮೇಯಿಸುವವನಾಗಿಯೂ; ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿರುವಿ ಎಂಬದು.

ಆಗ ಯೋನಾತಾ ನನು ದಾವೀದನನ್ನು ಕರೆದು ಆ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಅವನಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸಿ ದಾವೀದನನ್ನು ಸೌಲನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಕರ ತಂದನು; ಅವನು ಮುಂಚಿನ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಅವನ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದನು.

ಬದುಕುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಓಡಿಹೋಗತಕ್ಕ ಕೊಲೆ ಪಾತಕನ ವಿವರವೇನಂದರೆ -- ತಿಳಿಯದೆ ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಪೂರ್ವಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಗೆಮಾಡದೆ ತನ್ನ ನೆರೆಯವನನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆದವನೇ.

ಮೋಶೆಯು ಕರ್ತನಿಗೆ--ಓ ನನ್ನ ಕರ್ತನೇ, ನಾನು ಮೊದಲಿನಿಂದಲೂ ನೀನು ನಿನ್ನ ದಾಸನ ಸಂಗಡ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದಂದಿನಿಂದಲೂ ವಾಕ್ಚಾತುರ್ಯವಿ ಲ್ಲದವನು. ನನ್ನ ಮಾತೂ ನಾಲಿಗೆಯೂ ಮಂದವಾಗಿವೆ ಅಂದನು.
