ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರು ಸೌಲನನ್ನೂ ಅವನ ಕುಮಾರ ರನ್ನೂ ಬೆನ್ನಟ್ಟಿ ಸೌಲನ ಕುಮಾರರಾದ ಯೋನಾತಾನ ನನ್ನೂ ಅಬೀನಾದಾಬನನ್ನೂ ಮಲ್ಕೀಷೂವನನ್ನೂ ಸಂಹರಿಸಿದರು.

ಅವನಿಗೆ ವರ್ತ ಮಾನ ಹೇಳಿದ ಯೌವನಸ್ಥನು--ನಾನು ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಗಿಲ್ಬೋವ ಬೆಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದಿದ್ದೆನು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಇಗೋ, ಸೌಲನು ತನ್ನ ಈಟಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಆತುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದನು. ಆಗ ಇಗೋ, ರಥಗಳೂ ರಾಹುತರೂ ಅವನನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡೇ ಇದ್ದರು.

ದಾವೀದನು ಸೌಲನ ಸಂಗಡ ಮಾತನಾಡಿ ತೀರಿಸಿದಾಗ ಯೋನಾತಾನನ ಪ್ರಾಣವು ದಾವೀದನ ಪ್ರಾಣದ ಸಂಗಡ ಒಂದಾಯಿತು. ಯೋನಾತಾನನು ಅವನನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣದ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಪ್ರೀತಿಮಾಡಿದನು.

ಆ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಏನಾಯಿತಂದರೆ, ಸೌಲನಮಗನಾದ ಯೋನಾತಾನನು ತನ್ನ ಆಯು ಧಗಳನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿಯುವವನಾದ ಯೌವನಸ್ಥನಿಗೆ--ನಾವು ನಮಗೆದುರಾಗಿ ಆಚೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರ ಠಾಣಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗೋಣ ಬಾ ಅಂದನು; ಆದರೆ ಅವನು ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ.

ಸೌಲನೂ ಅವನ ಮಗನಾದ ಯೋನಾತಾನನೂ ಅವನ ಸಂಗಡ ಇರುವ ಜನರೂ ಸಹಿತವಾಗಿ ಬೆನ್ಯಾ ವಿಾನ್‌ ದೇಶದ ಗಿಬೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರು ಮಿಕ್ಮಾಷಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳಿದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು.

ಮೂರು ಸಾವಿರ ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ಸಾವಿರ ಜನರು ಸೌಲನು ಇರುವ ಮಿಕ್ಮಾಷಿ ನಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಬೇತೇಲಿನ ಪರ್ವತದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಇದ್ದರು; ಸಾವಿರ ಜನರು ಯೋನಾತಾನನ ಸಂಗಡ ಬೆನ್ಯಾವಿಾನ್‌ ದೇಶದ ಗಿಬೆಯದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರು. ಉಳಿದ ಜನರನ್ನು ಅವರ ವರ ಡೇರೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿಬಿಟ್ಟನು.

ವಿಮೋಚನಕಾಂಡ 20:5
ನೀನು ಅವುಗಳಿಗೆ ಅಡ್ಡಬೀಳಬಾರದು, ಸೇವಿಸಲೂ ಬಾರದು. ನಿನ್ನ ದೇವರಾದ ಕರ್ತನಾಗಿರುವ ನಾನು ರೋಷವುಳ್ಳ ದೇವರಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಹಗೆ ಮಾಡುವ ತಂದೆಗಳ ಅಪರಾಧವನ್ನು ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಯೂ ಮೂರನೆಯ ನಾಲ್ಕನೆಯ ತಲೆಗಳ ವರೆಗೂ ಬರಮಾಡುವೆನು.
