ಆದರೆ ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರ ಸಂಗಡ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡಿದರು. ಆಗ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್‌ ಜನರು ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರ ಎದುರಿನಿಂದ ಓಡಿಹೋಗಿ ಗಿಲ್ಬೋವ ಬೆಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಲ್ಲಲ್ಪಟ್ಟವರಾಗಿ ಬಿದ್ದರು.

ಗಿಲ್ಬೋವ ಬೆಟ್ಟಗಳೇ, ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಂಜೂ ಮಳೆಯೂ ಅರ್ಪಣೆಗಳ ಹೊಲ ಗಳೂ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಹೋಗಲಿ. ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಾ ಕ್ರಮಶಾಲಿಗಳ ಗುರಾಣಿಯೂ ಸೌಲನ ಗುರಾಣಿಯೂ ಅವಮಾನವಾಗಿ ಬಿದ್ದವು. ಸೌಲನು ಎಣ್ಣೆಯಿಂದ ಅಭಿಷೇಕಿಸಲ್ಪಡದವನ ಹಾಗಾದನು.

ಆ ದಿವಸಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಏನಾಯಿತಂದರೆ,ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರ ಮೇಲೆ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡಲು ತಮ್ಮ ಸೈನ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕೂಡಿಸಿ ಕೊಂಡರು. ಆಗ ಆಕೀಷನು ದಾವೀದನಿಗೆ--ನೀನೂ ನಿನ್ನ ಜನರೂ ಯುದ್ಧವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲು ನಮ್ಮ ಸಂಗಡ ನಿಶ್ಚಯವಾಗಿ ಬರಬೇಕೆಂದು ತಿಳಿಯಲಿಲ್ಲವೋ ಅಂದನು.

ಆಗ ಸಮುವೇಲನು ಸೌಲನಿಗೆ--ನೀನು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಏರಿ ಬರ ಮಾಡಿ ಯಾಕೆ ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿಯನ್ನು ಕೆಡಿಸಿದಿ ಅಂದನು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಸೌಲನು--ನಾನು ಬಹಳ ಇಕ್ಕಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದೇನೆ; ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರು ನನಗೆ ವಿರೋಧವಾಗಿ ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ; ಆದರೆ ದೇವರು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟುಹೋದನು. ಆತನು ಪ್ರವಾದಿಗಳ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ವಾದರೂ ಸ್ವಪ್ನದ ಮುಖಾಂತರವಾದರೂ ನನಗೆ ಪ್ರತ್ಯುತ್ತರಕೊಡಲಿಲ್ಲ; ಆದದರಿಂದ ನಾನು ಮಾಡ ಬೇಕಾದದ್ದನ್ನು ನೀನು ತಿಳಿಸುವ ಹಾಗೆ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಕರೆಸಿದೆನು ಅಂದನು.

ಆದರೆ ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರು ತಮ್ಮ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸೈನ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಅಫೇಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೂಡಿಸಿ ಕೊಂಡರು. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರು ಇಜ್ರೇಲ್‌ ನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಬುಗ್ಗೆಯ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ದಂಡಿಳಿದರು.
