ಯೋವಾಬನ ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬನು ಸತ್ತವನ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತು--ಯಾವನು ಯೋವಾಬನ ಮೇಲೆ ಇಷ್ಟವುಳ್ಳವನೋ ಯಾವನು ದಾವೀದನಿಗೆ ಹೊಂದಿದವನೋ ಅವನು ಯೋವಾಬನ ಹಿಂದೆ ಹೋಗಲಿ ಅಂದನು.

ಆದದರಿಂದ ದಾವೀದನು ಅಬೀಷೈಗೆಈಗ ಅಬ್ಷಾಲೋಮನಿಗಿಂತ ಬಿಕ್ರಿಯ ಮಗನಾದ ಶೆಬನು ನಮಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಕೇಡನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವನು. ಅವನು ತನಗೆ ಗಡಿ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಾದ ಪಟ್ಟಣಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಪಾ ದಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ನಮ್ಮಿಂದ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳದ ಹಾಗೆ ನೀನು ನಿನ್ನ ಯಜಮಾನನ ಸೇವಕರನ್ನು ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ಹೊರಟು ಅವನನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟು ಅಂದನು.

ಕಾರ್ಯವು ಹಾಗಲ್ಲ; ಬಿಕ್ರೀಯ ಮಗನಾದ ಶೆಬನೆಂಬ ಹೆಸರುಳ್ಳ ಎಫ್ರಾಯಾಮ್‌ ಬೆಟ್ಟದವನಾದ ಒಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಅರಸನಾದ ದಾವೀದನಿಗೆ ವಿರೋಧವಾಗಿ ತನ್ನ ಕೈಯನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ನೀವು ಅವನೊಬ್ಬನನ್ನೇ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಡಿರಿ; ಆಗ ನಾನು ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಹೋಗುವೆನು ಅಂದನು. ಆ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯು ಯೋವಾಬನಿಗೆ--ಇಗೋ, ಅವನ ತಲೆಯು ಗೋಡೆಯ ಮೇಲಿನಿಂದ ನಿನ್ನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಹಾಕಲ್ಪಡುವದು ಅಂದಳು.
