தங்கள் பிதாக்களை எகிப்துதேசத்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணின அவர்களுடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரை விட்டு, தங்களைச் சுற்றிலும் இருக்கிற ஜனங்கலுடைய தேவர்களாகிய அந்நிய தேவர்களைப் பின்பற்றிப்போய், அவர்களைப் பணிந்துகொண்டு, கர்த்தருக்குக் கோபமூட்டினார்கள்

கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலரை எகிப்திலிருந்து வெளியே அழைத்து வந்திருந்தார். இந்த ஜனங்களின் முற்பிதாக்கள் கர்த்தரை ஆராதித்தனர். ஆனால் இஸ்ரவேலரோ கர்த்தரைப் பின்பற்றுவதை விட்டு விலகி, தங்களைச் சுற்றிலும் வாழ்ந்த ஜனங்களின் பொய்த் தெய்வங்களை தொழுதுகொள்ள ஆரம்பித்தனர். அது கர்த்தரை கோபத்திற்குள்ளாக்கிற்று.

அந்தத் தீர்க்கதரிசியும், அந்தச் சொப்பனக்காரனும் கொலைசெய்யப்படக்கடவன்; நீங்கள் நடக்கும்படி உங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உங்களுக்கு விதித்த வழியை விட்டு உங்களை விலக்கும்படி, அவன், உங்களை எகிப்துதேசத்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணினவரும் உங்களை அடிமைத்தன வீட்டிலிருந்து நீங்கலாக்கி மீட்டுக்கொண்டவருமான உங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு விரோதமான துரோகப் பேச்சைப் பேசினான்; இப்படிப்பட்ட தீமையை உங்களிடத்திலிருந்து விலக்குவீர்களாக.

ஆகையால், அந்த ஜாதிகளின் தேவர்களைச் சேவிக்கப் போகும்படி, இன்று நம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரைவிட்டு அகலுகிற இருதயமுள்ள ஒரு புருஷனாகிலும் ஸ்திரீயாகிலும் குடும்பமாகிலும் கோத்திரமாகிலும் உங்களில் இராதபடிக்கும், நஞ்சையும் எட்டியையும் முளைப்பிக்கிற யாதொரு வேர் உங்களில் இராதபடிக்கும் பாருங்கள்.

அதற்கு அவர்களுடைய பிதாக்களின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் அவர்களை எகிப்து தேசத்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணும்போது, அவர்களோடே பண்ணின உடன்படிக்கையை அவர்கள் விட்டுப்போய்,

நூதன தேவர்களைத் தெரிந்துகொண்டார்கள்; அப்பொழுது யுத்தம் வாசல்வரையும் வந்தது; இஸ்ரவேலிலே நாற்பதினாயிரம் பேருக்குள்ளே கேடகமும் ஈட்டியும் காணப்பட்டதுண்டோ?

யெஷூரன் கொழுத்துப்போய் உதைத்தான், கொழுத்து, ஸ்தூலித்து, நிணம் துன்னினபோது, தன்னை உண்டாக்கின தேவனை விட்டு, தன் ரட்சிப்பின் கன்மலையை அசட்டைபண்ணினான்.
