பசியுள்ளவனுக்கு உன் ஆகாரத்தைப் பகிர்ந்துகொடுக்கிறதும், துரத்துண்ட சிறுமையானவர்களை வீட்டிலே சேர்த்துக்கொள்ளுகிறதும், வஸ்திரமில்லாதவனைக்கண்டால் அவனுக்கு வஸ்திரங் கொடுக்கிறதும், உன் மாம்சமானவனுக்கு உன்னை ஒளிக்காமலிருக்கிறதும் அல்லவோ எனக்கு உகந்த உபவாசம்.

நீங்கள் உங்கள் உணவை பசித்தவர்களோடு பங்கிட்டுக்கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்று விரும்புகிறேன். நீங்கள் வீடற்ற ஏழை ஜனங்களைக் கண்டு பிடித்து, அவர்களை உங்கள் வீட்டிற்கு அழைத்து வருவதை நான் விரும்புகிறேன். ஆடையில்லாத ஒரு மனிதனை நீங்கள் பார்க்கும்போது, உங்கள் ஆடைகளை அவனுக்குக் கொடுங்கள். அவர்களுக்கு உதவாமல் ஒளிந்துகொள்ளாதீர்கள். அவர்கள் உங்களைப் போன்றவர்களே.”
