1 A Psalm of Asaph.
2 O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.
3 The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.
4 Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and there was none to bury them.
5 We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.
6 How long, Lord? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?
7 Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.
8 For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place.
9 O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low.
10 Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name’s sake.
11 Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God? let him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of thy servants which is shed.
12 Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die;
13 And render unto our neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, wherewith they have reproached thee, O Lord.
14 So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will shew forth thy praise to all generations.
0 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.
1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
