હું જ્યારે તમારી સાથે નથી ત્યારે આ વાતો લખું છું. હું લખું છું જેથી જ્યારે હું આવું ત્યારે તમને શિક્ષા કરવા માટે મારા સાર્મથ્યનો ઉપયોગ ના કરવો પડે. પ્રભુએ મને તે સાર્મથ્ય તમને પ્રબળ કરવા આપ્યું છે નહિ કે તમારો ધ્વંશ કરવા.

Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction.

કેટલાએક લોકો વિચારે છે કે અમે દુન્યવી પધ્ધતિથી જીવીએ છીએ. જ્યારે હું આવું ત્યારે આવા લોકો સાથે ઘણા નીડર થવાની મારી યોજના છે. હું તમને વિનવું છું કે હું જ્યારે આવું ત્યારે તેવી જ નીડરતાનો ઉપયોગ તમારી સાથે કરવાની મારે જરૂર પડશે નહિ.

હું આમ કરું છું કારણ કે મને ભય છે કે હું તમને જેવા થવા ઈચ્છું છું તેવા તમે હશો નહિ. જ્યારે હું આવું છું અને તમે મને જેવો થવા ઈચ્છો છો તેવો હું હોઈશ નહિ. મને ભય છે કે તમારા સમૂહમાં વિવાદ, ઈર્ષા, ક્રોધ, સ્વાર્થ, ઝઘડા, દુષ્ટવાતો, ગપસપ, ઉધ્ધતાઈ અને મુંઝવણો હશે.
