ભલે યહોવા માંણસને તેના સાચા કાર્યો અને વિશ્વાસુપણા પ્રમાંણે બદલો આપે. આજે યહોવાએ તને માંરા હાથમાં સોપી દીધો હતો પરંતુ યહોવાએ તને રાજા બનાવ્યો છે. તેથી હું એમના પસંદ કરેલા માંણસને ઇજા ન કરી શકું.

જુઓ, માંરા હાથમાં શું છે? આ રહી માંરા હાથમાં આપના ઝભ્ભાની ચાળ, મેં એ કાપી લીધી, પણ આપનો વધ ન કર્યો. એથી આપને ખાતરી થશે કે, માંરા મનમાં આપની સામે બળવો કરવાનો કે આપને ઇજા પહોંચાડવાનો ખ્યાલ જ નથી. મેં આપનું કશું જ બગાડયું નથી, તેમ છતાં આપ માંરો જીવ લેવા માંરી પાછળ પડયા છો.

શાઉલે તેને પૂછયું, “તેં અને યશાઇના પુત્રે માંરી વિરુદ્ધ કાવતરું શા માંટે કર્યુ? તેં તેને ખાવાનું આપ્યું, તરવાર આપી અને તેના માંટે યહોવાને પ્રાર્થના પણ કરી. હવે તે સંતાઇ ગયો છે મને માંરી નાખવાની રાહમાં.”

એટલે દાઉદે અહીમેલેખ યાજકને કહ્યું કે, “રાજાએ મને એમ કહીને આદેશ કર્યો છે કે, હું તને ખાનગી કામ પર મોકલી રહ્યો છું. તેના વિષે કોઇને ખબર પડવી જોઇએ નહિ. મેં માંરા માંણસોને મને એક જગા પર મળવાનું કહ્યું.

દાઉદે અને તેના માંણસોએ જઈને બ સો પલિસ્તીઓને માંરી નાખ્યા; દાઉદે તેમની ઇન્દ્રિયની ચામડી લાવીને રાજાને આપી; જેથી પોતે રાજાનો જમાંઈ થઈ શકે. આથી શાઉલે પોતાની પુત્રી મીખાલ દાઉદને પરણાવી.

તેથી શાઉલે તેને પોતાની હજૂરમાંથી ખસેડીને તેને પોતાના સૈન્યમાં સહસ્ત્રાધિપતિ તરીકે નીમ્યો. પછી તે લોકોને યુદ્ધમાં દોરી જતો હતો અને પાછા લાવતો હતો.
