ઇસ્રાએલીઓના પ્રવાસના પ્રત્યેક મુકામે જયારે વાદળ મંડપ પરથી હઠી જતું ત્યારે તે લોકો મુકામ ઉપાડતા.

તેઓને દિવસે રસ્તો બતાવવા માંટે યહોવા વાદળના થાંભલા રૂપે આગળ આગળ ચાલતા તેમજ રાત્રે તેમને પ્રકાશ મળે તેથી અગ્નિસ્તંભરૂપે ચાલતા. જેથી તેઓ સતત રાતદિવસ યાત્રા કરી શકતા હતા.
