દાઉદે હિત્તી અહીમેલેખ અને સરૂયાનો પુત્ર અબીશાય સાથે વાત કરી (અબીશાય યોઆબનો ભાઇ હતો) અને કહ્યું, “માંરી સાથે સેનાની છાવણીમાં શાઉલને મળવા માંટે કોણ આવે છે?”અબીશાયે કહ્યું, “હું તૈયાર છું.”

યોઆબના ભાઈ સરૂયાનો પુત્ર અબીશાય ત્રણ શૂરવીરોમાં સૌથી વધારે શૂરવીર હતો. એક વખતે તેણે એકલા હાથે ત્રણસો માંણસોની સાથે યુદ્ધ કરી તેઓનો સંહાર કર્યો હતો. આ વીરતા ભરેલા કાર્યને લીધે આ ત્રણ શૂરવીરોમાં તે ખૂબ પ્રખ્યાત થયો.

રાજાએ યોઆબ, અબીશાય અને ઇત્તાયને હુકમ કર્યો કે, “માંરે ખાતર તમે યુવાન આબ્શાલોમ સાથે નરમાંશથી બોલજો.” અને આખા લશ્કરે આ હુકમને સાંભળ્યો.
