પ્રબોધકનાં વચનો સાંભળીને આહાબે પશ્ચાત્તાપથી કપડાં ફાડી નાખ્યાં. તેણે ઉપવાસ કર્યા અને શોકના કપડાં પહેર્યા, તેમાં સૂઇ ગયો અને ચૂપચાપ બધે ચાલતો રહ્યો.

શું હું તમારી પાસેથી આ પ્રકારના ઉપવાસ સ્વીકારું છું? જેમાં આ પ્રમાણે પ્રાયશ્ચિત કરવું અને હવામાં બરૂની જેમ માથું નમાવવું અને શોકના વસ્ત્રો પહેરીને પોતાના શરીર ઉપર રાખ ચોપડવી? શું તમને લાગે છે કે યહોવા આ પ્રકારના ઉપવાસને સ્વીકારે છે?
