ઇસ્રાએલનો જયેષ્ઠ પુત્ર રૂબેન હતો, પણ તેણે પોતાના પિતાની એક પત્ની સાથે મેળાપ કરી પિતાનું અપમાન કર્યુ હતું, તેથી તેનો જયેષ્ઠપણાનો હક્ક તેના ભાઈ યૂસફને આપવામાં આવ્યો હતો.
