1 The whole company of them rose up and brought him before Pilate.પછી આખો સમૂહ ઊભો થયો અને પિલાત પાસે ઈસુને લઈ ગયો. તેઓ ઈસુની વિરૂદ્ધ તહોમત મૂકવા લાગ્યા.

2 They began to accuse him, saying, "We found this man perverting the nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king."તેઓએ પિલાતને કહ્યું કે, “અમારા લોકોના વિચારોને બદલવાના પ્રયત્ન કરતા આ માણસને અમે પકડ્યો છે. કૈસરને કરવેરા આપવાનો તેણે વિરોધ કર્યો. તે એક ખ્રિસ્ત રાજા હોવાનો દાવો કરે છે.”

3 Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" He answered him, "So you say."પિલાતે ઈસુને પૂછયું કે, “શું તું યહૂદિઓનો રાજા છે?”ઈસુએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “હા, તે સાચું છે.”

4 Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, "I find no basis for a charge against this man."પિલાતે મુખ્ય યાજકો તથા લોકોને કહ્યું કે, “મને આ માણસમાં કંઈ ખોટું દેખાતું નથી.”

5 But they insisted, saying, "He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place."તેઓએ ફરીફરીને કહ્યું કે, “પણ તે લોકોને ઉશ્કેરે છે! તે યહૂદિયાની આજુબાજુ બોધ આપે છે. તેણે ગાલીલમાં શરૂ કર્યો અને હવે તે અહીં છે!”

6 But when Pilate heard Galilee mentioned, he asked if the man was a Galilean.પિલાતે આ સાંભળ્યું અને પૂછયું કે, શું ઈસુ ગાલીલનો હતો?

7 When he found out that he was in Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem during those days.પિલાતે જાણ્યું કે ઈસુ હેરોદના તાબામાં છે. તે વખતે હેરોદ યરૂશાલેમમાં હતો. તેથી પિલાતે ઈસુને તેની પાસે મોકલ્યો.

8 Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had wanted to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him. He hoped to see some miracle done by him.જ્યારે હેરોદે ઈસુને જોયો ત્યારે તે ઘણો ખુશ થયો. હેરોદે ઈસુ વિષે ઘણી બાબતો સાંભળી હતી. તેથી લાંબા સમયથી તે ઈસુને મળવા ઈચ્છતો હતો. હેરોદ કોઈ ચમત્કાર જોવા માંગતો હતો. તેથી તેણે આશા રાખી કે ઈસુ કંઈ ચમત્કાર કરશે.

9 He questioned him with many words, but he gave no answers.હેરોદે ઈસુને ઘણા પ્રશ્રો પૂછયા, પણ ઈસુએ કંઈ કહ્યું નહિ.

10 The chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him.મુખ્ય યાજકો તથા શાસ્ત્રીઓ ત્યાં ઊભા હતા. તેઓએ ઈસુની વિરૂદ્ધ તહોમત મૂકવાનું ચાલું રાખ્યું.

11 Herod with his soldiers humiliated him and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate.પછી હેરોદ અને તેના સૈનિકો ઈસુને હસતા હતા. તેઓએ ઈસુને રાજાઓના જેવાં કપડાં પહેરાવી તેની મશ્કરી ઉડાવી. પછી હેરોદે ઈસુને પાછો પિલાત પાસે મોકલ્યો.

12 Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before that they were enemies with each other.ભૂતકાળમાં પિલાત અને હેરોદ હંમેશા દુશ્મનો હતા પણ તે દિવસે હેરોદ અને પિલાત મિત્રો બન્યા.

13 Pilate called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,પિલાતે મુખ્ય યાજકો, યહૂદિ અધિકારીઓ અને બધા લોકોને ભેગા કર્યા અને સાથે બોલાવ્યા.

14 and said to them, "You brought this man to me as one that perverts the people, and see, I have examined him before you, and found no basis for a charge against this man concerning those things of which you accuse him.પિલાતે તેઓને કહ્યું કે, “આ માણસને તમે મારી પાસે લાવ્યા છો. તમે કહ્યું કે તે લોકોનું પરિવર્તન કરે છે. પણ મેં તમારી સમક્ષ તેની પરીક્ષા કરી, મને તેણે કંઈ ખોટું કર્યુ હોય એવું દેખાયું નહિ.

15 Neither has Herod, for I sent you to him, and see, nothing worthy of death has been done by him.હેરોદને પણ કંઈ ખોટું જણાયું નથી. તેઓ આક્ષેપ મૂકે છે તેમાનું તેણે કશું જ કર્યુ નથી. પણ તેનામાં કંઈ ખોટું દેખાયું નથી. હેરોદે ઈસુને આપણી પાસે પાછો મોકલ્યો છે તેથી તેને મારી નાખવો જોઈએ નહિ.

16 I will therefore chastise him and release him."તેથી હું તેને થોડી શિક્ષા કર્યા પછી, તેને જવા માટે મુક્ત કરીશ.”

17 Now he had to release one prisoner to them at the feast.હવે દર વર્ષે પાસ્ખાપર્વને દિવસે લોકોને માટે પિલાતે એક કેદીને છોડી દેવો પડતો હતો.

18 But they all cried out together, saying, "Away with this man! Release to us Barabbas!" --પણ બધા લોકોએ બૂમો પાડી, “તેને મારી નાખો! બરબ્બાસને મુક્ત કરો!”

19 one who was thrown into prison for a certain revolt in the city, and for murder.(બરબ્બાસ શહેરમાં હુલ્લડ શરું કરવા બદલ બંદીખાનામાં હતો. તેણે કેટલાક માણસોની હત્યા પણ કરી હતી.)

20 Then Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus,પિલાત ઈસુને મુક્ત કરવા ઈચ્છતો હતો. તેથી પિલાતે તેને ફરીથી કહ્યું કે તે ઈસુને છોડી મૂકશે.

21 but they shouted, saying, "Crucify! Crucify him!"પણ તેઓએ વારંવાર બૂમો પાડી, “તેને મારી નાખો!” “વધસ્તંભ પર મારી નાખો!”

22 He said to them the third time, "Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him."ત્રીજી વખત પિલાતે લોકોને કહ્યું કે, “શા માટે? તેણે શું ખોટું કર્યુ છે? તે દોષિત નથી. તેને મારી નાખવાનું કોઈ કારણ મને દેખાતું નથી. તેથી હું તેને થોડીક સજા કરીને પછી છોડી દઇશ.”

23 But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. Their voices and the voices of the chief priests prevailed.લોકોએ બૂમો પાડવાનું ચાલુ રાખ્યું. તેઓએ માંગણી કરી કે ઈસુને વધસ્તંભે જડાવીને મારી નાખો. તેમની બૂમો એટલી મોટી થઈ કે

24 Pilate decreed that what they asked for should be done.પિલાતે તેઓના માંગ્યા પ્રમાણે તેઓને આપવાનો નિર્ણય કર્યો.

25 He released him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus up to their will.લોકો બરબ્બાસને મુક્ત કરાવવા ઈચ્છતા હતા. બરબ્બાસ હુલ્લડ શરું કરાવવા બદલ તથા લોકોની હત્યા માટે બંદીખાનામાં હતો. પિલાતે બરબ્બાસને છોડી મૂક્યો. અને પિલાતે ઈસુને મારી નાખવા માટે લોકોને સોંપ્યો. લોકોને તો આ જ જોઈતું હતું.

26 When they led him away, they grabbed one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it after Jesus.ઈસુને મારી નાખવા સૈનિકો દૂર લઈ જતા હતા. તે જ સમયે સીમમાંથી એક માણસ શહેરમાં આવતો હતો. તેનું નામ સિમોન હતું. સિમોન, કુરેની શહેરનો હતો. સૈનિકોએ સિમોનને ઈસુનો વધસ્તંભ તેની ખાંધે ચઢાવીને ઈસુની પાછળ ચાલવા ફરજ પાડી.

27 A great multitude of the people followed him, including women who also mourned and lamented him.ઘણા બધા લોકો ઈસુની પાછળ ચાલ્યા. તેમાંની ઘણી સ્ત્રીઓ હતી.

28 But Jesus, turning to them, said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, don't weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.પરંતુ ઈસુએ તેમના તરફ ફરીને કહ્યું કે, “યરૂશાલેમની સ્ત્રીઓ, મારા માટે રડશો નહિ. તમારી જાત માટે અને તમારા બાળકો માટે રડો!

29 For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.'સમય એવો આવે છે કે જ્યારે લોકો કહેશે કે, એ સ્ત્રીઓને ધન્ય છે જેઓને બાળકો થઈ શકતા નથી. તે સ્ત્રીઓને ધન્ય છે કે જેઓએ બાળકોને જન્મ આપ્યો નથી. અને જેઓએ બાળકોને ધવડાવ્યું નથી.’

30 Then they will begin to tell the mountains, 'Fall on us!' and tell the hills, 'Cover us.'પછી લોકો પહાડોને કહેશે કે, ‘અમારા પર પડો!’ લોકો ટેકરીઓને કહેશે કે, ‘અમને ઢાંકી નાખો!’

31 For if they do these things in the green tree, what will be done in the dry?"જો હમણા જ્યારે જીવન સારૂં છે ત્યારે લોકો આ રીતે વર્તશે. પણ જ્યારે ખરાબ સમય આવશે ત્યાંરે શું થશે? કેમ કે જો તેઓ લીલા ઝાડને આમ કરે છે તો સૂકાને શું નહિ કરશે?”

32 There were also others, two criminals, led with him to be put to death.ત્યાં બીજા બે ગુનેગારો પણ હતા તેઓને મારી નાખવા માટે તેઓ ઈસુની સાથે દોરી જતા હતા.

33 When they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.ઈસુ અને તે બે ગુનેગારોને ‘ખોપરી’ નામની જગ્યાએ લઈ ગયા. ત્યાં સૈનિકોએ ઈસુને ખીલા ઠોકીને વધસ્તંભે જડ્યો. તેઓએ એક ગુનેગારને ઈસુની જમણી બાજુએ વધસ્તંભે જડ્યો. તેઓએ બીજા ગુનેગારને ઈસુની ડાબી બાજુએ વધસ્તંભે જડ્યો.

34 Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they don't know what they are doing." Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots.ઈસુએ કહ્યું કે, “હે બાપ, આ લોકોને માફ કર. જેઓ મારી હત્યા કરી રહ્યા છે. તેઓ શું કરી રહ્યા છે તે તેઓ જાણતા નથી.સૈનિકોએ પાસા ફેંકીને જુગાર રમ્યો અને નક્કી કર્યુ કે ઈસુના લૂગડાં કોણ લેશે.

35 The people stood watching. The rulers with them also scoffed at him, saying, "He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen one!"લોકો ત્યાં ઊભા રહીને ઈસુને જોતા હતા. યહૂદિ અધિકારીઓ ઈસુની મશ્કરી કરતાં હતા. તેઓએ કહ્યું કે, “જો તે દેવનો એક પસંદ કરાયેલ ખ્રિસ્ત હોય તો તેને તેનો બચાવ તેની જાતે કરવા દો. તેણે બીજા લોકોને બચાવ્યા છે. શું તેણે નથી બચાવ્યા?”

36 The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar,સૈનિકોએ પણ ઈસુની ઠઠ્ઠા મશ્કરી કરી. તેઓ ઈસુ પાસે આવ્યા અને તેને થોડો સરકો આપ્યો.

37 and saying, "If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!"સૈનિકોએ કહ્યું કે, “જો તું યહૂદિઓનો રાજા હોય તો તું તારી જાતને બચાવ!”

38 An inscription was also written over him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: "THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS."(વધસ્તંભની ટોચ પર આ શબ્દો લખેલા હતા: “આ યહૂદિઓનો રાજા છે.”

39 One of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, "If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!"ગુનેગારોમાંનો એક જેને ત્યા ફાંસીએ લટકાવ્યો હતો તેણે ઈસુનું અપમાન કરીને બૂમો પાડવાનું શરું કર્યુ, “શું તું ખ્રિસ્ત નથી? તો તારી જાતને બચાવ! અને અમને પણ બચાવ!”

40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Don't you even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?પરંતુ બીજા ગુનેગારે તેને અટકાવ્યો. તેણે કહ્યું કે, “તારે દેવથી ડરવું જોઈએ! આપણે બધાજલ્દીથી મરી જઇશું!

41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong."તારા અને મારા માટે મૃત્યુ ન્યાયી રીતે આવી રહ્યું છે કારણ કે આપણને જે કંઈ મળ્યું છે તે આપણા કુકર્મો માટે યોગ્ય છે. આ માણસે તો કશું જ ખોટું કર્યુ નથી.”

42 He said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when you come into your Kingdom."પછી આ ગુનેગારે ઈસુને કહ્યું કે, “ઈસુ, જ્યારે તું રાજા તરીકે શાસન શરું કરે ત્યારે મને સંભારજે!”

43 Jesus said to him, "Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise."પછી ઈસુએ તેને કહ્યું કે, “ધ્યાનથી સાંભળ, હું જે કહું છું તે સાચું છે. આજે તું મારી સાથે પારાદૈસમાંહોઇશ!”

44 It was now about the sixth hour{Time was counted from sunrise, so the sixth hour was about noon.}, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour.{3:00 PM}તે લગભગ બપોર હતી, પરંતુ સમગ્ર વિસ્તારમાં બપોરના ત્રણ વાગ્યા સુધી અંધકાર છવાયો હતો.

45 The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.ત્યાં સૂરજ ન હતો. મંદિરમાંનો પડદો બે ભાગમાં ફાટી ગયો.

46 Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!" Having said this, he breathed his last.ઈસુએ જોરથી ઊચા અવાજે પોકાર કર્યો કે, “ઓ બાપ, હું મારો આત્મા તારા હાથમાં સોંપું છું.? ઈસુએ એમ કહ્યું, પછી તે મૃત્યુ પામ્યો.

47 When the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, "Certainly this was a righteous man."લશ્કરના અધિકારીએ ત્યાં જે કંઈ થયું તે જોયું. તેણે દેવની સ્તુતિ કરીને કહ્યું કે, “હું જાણું છું આ માણસ ખરેખર ન્યાયી હતો!”

48 All the multitudes that came together to see this, when they saw the things that were done, returned home beating their breasts.ઘણા લોકો આ જોવા માટે શહેરની બહાર આવ્યા. જ્યારે લોકોએ તે જોયું, તેઓ

49 All his acquaintances, and the women who followed with him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.ઈસુના નજીકના મિત્રો ત્યાં હતા. ત્યાં કેટલીએક સ્ત્રીઓ ગાલીલમાંથી ઈસુની પાછળ આવી હતા તે પણ ત્યાં હતી.

50 Behold, a man named Joseph, who was a member of the council, a good and righteous manતેઓ વધસ્તંભથી ઘણે દૂર ઊભા રહીને આ જોતી હતી.

51 (he had not consented to their counsel and deed), from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was also waiting for the Kingdom of God:યહૂદિઓના શહેર અરિમથાઇનો એક માણસ ત્યાં હતો. તેનું નામ યૂસફ હતું. તે એક સારો, અને ધર્મિક માણસ હતો. તે દેવના રાજ્યની આવવાની રાહ જોતો હતો. તે યહૂદિઓની ન્યાયસભાનો સભ્ય હતો. જ્યારે બીજા યહૂદિઓના આગેવાનોએ ઈસુને મારી નાખવાનો નિર્ણય કર્યા ત્યારે તે સંમત થયો નહોતો.

52 this man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus' body.યૂસફે પિલાત પાસે જઇને ઈસુનો દેહ માંગ્યો. પિલાતે યૂસફને શબ લેવાની હા પાડી.

53 He took it down, and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that was cut in stone, where no one had ever been laid.તેથી યૂસફે વધસ્તંભ પરથી દેહ નીચે લાવીને લૂગડાંમાં વીંટાળ્યું. પછી તેણે ઈસુનું દેહ ખડકમાં ખોદેલી કબરમાં મૂક્યું. આ અગાઉ આ કબર કદી ઉપયોગમાં લેવાઇ ન હતી.

54 It was the day of the Preparation, and the Sabbath was drawing near.તે દિવસ સિદ્ધિકરણનો હતો. જ્યારે સૂર્યાસ્ત થયો ત્યારે, વિશ્રામવાર શરૂ થયો હતો.

55 The women, who had come with him out of Galilee, followed after, and saw the tomb, and how his body was laid.જે સ્ત્રીઓ ગાલીલથી ઈસુની સાથે આવી હતી તે યૂસફ પાસે ગઇ. તેઓએ કબર જોઈ. તેઓએ જ્યાં ઈસુનો દેહ મૂકવામાં આવ્યો હતો તે પણ જોયું.

56 They returned, and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.પછી તે સ્ત્રીઓ ઈસુના દેહ પર મસાલા તથા સુગંધિત દ્ધવ્યો મૂકવા માટેની તૈયારી કરવા પાછી આવી.વિશ્રામવારે તેઓએ વિશ્રામ લીધો. મૂસાના નિયમ પ્રમાણે બધાજ લોકોએ આ કર્યુ.
