તે વિષે જાણ્યું ત્યારથી યરૂશાલેમના લોકો ઘણા જ ડરી ગયા, કારણ કે ગિબયોન તો મહાનગર હતું અને તે રાજનગર જેવું હતું અને તે આયનગર કરતાં વિશાળ હતું. તે નગરના લોકો બહાદુર હતાં, અને તેઓ તેના માંટે બહુ પ્રખ્યાત હતા.

યહોવાએ યહોશુઆને કહ્યું, “ભયભીત કે નાહિમ્મત થઈશ નહિ, સમગ્ર સેના સાથે તું આયનગર ઉપર ચઢાઈ કર. મેં આયનગરના રાજાને, તેની પ્રજાને, તેના શહેરને અને તેના પ્રદેશને તને સોંપી દીધાં છે.
