1 વહેલી સવારે, અઠવાડિયાના પહેલા દિવસે, સ્ત્રીઓ કબર પાસે જ્યાં ઈસુનો દેહ મૂક્યો હતો ત્યાં આવી. તેઓ તેને માટે બનાવેલા સુગંધી દ્ધવ્યો લાવી હતી.

2 એક ભારે પથ્થર કબરના દ્ધારને બંધ કરવા મૂકવામાં આવ્યો હતો. પણ સ્ત્રીઓએ જેયું કે પથ્થર ગબડાવી દેવામાં આવ્યો હતો.

3 તેઓ અંદર ગઇ, પણ તેઓએ પ્રભુ ઈસુનો દેહ જોયો નહિ.

4 સ્ત્રીઓ આ સમજી શકી નહિ જ્યારે તેઓ આ વિષે અચરજ પામતાં હતાં ત્યારે ચળકતાં લૂગડામાં બે માણસો (દૂતો) તેઓની બાજુમાં આવીને ઊભા.

5 તે સ્ત્રીઓ ઘણી ગભરાઇ ગઇ; તેઓએ તેમના મસ્તક નીચાં નમાવ્યા. તે બે માણસોએ સ્ત્રીઓને કહ્યું કે, “જે જીવંત વ્યક્તિ છે તેને તમે અહી શા માટે શોધો છો? આ જગ્યા તો મરેલા લોકો માટે છે.

6 ઈસુ અહી નથી. તે મૃત્યુમાંથી ઊઠ્યો છે! તમને યાદ છે જ્યારે તે ગાલીલમાં હતો ત્યારે શું કહ્યું હતું?

7 ઈસુએ કહ્યું હતું કે માણસનો દીકરો દુષ્ટ માણસોને સોંપાય, વધસ્તંભ પર જડાય અને મારી નંખાય તથા ત્રીજા દિવસે પાછો ઊઠે એ અવશ્યનું છે.”

8 પછી સ્ત્રીઓને ઈસુએ જે કહ્યું હતું તે યાદ આવ્યું.

9 સ્ત્રીઓ કબર આગળથી પાછી આવી અને અગિયાર શિષ્યો તથા બીજા શિષ્યો પાસે ગઇ. સ્ત્રીઓએ કબરમાં જે કંઈ શયું હતું તે બધું તેઓને કહ્યું.

10 આ સ્ત્રીઓમાં મગ્દલાની મરિયમ, યોહાન્ના યાકૂબની મા મરિયમ તથા કેટલીએક બીજી સ્ત્રીઓ હતી. આ સ્ત્રીઓએ પ્રેરિતોને જે કંઈ બન્યું હતું તે બધું કહ્યું.

11 પરંતુ સ્ત્રીઓએ જે કહ્યું તે પ્રેરિતોએ માન્યું નહિ. એ વાતો મૂર્ખાઇ ભરેલી લાગી.

12 પણ પિતર ઊભો થયો. જો આ સાચું હોય તો તે જોવા માટે કબરે એકલો દોડ્યો. તેણે અંદર જોયું. પણ તેણે ઈસુને જેમાં વીંટાળ્યો હતો તે લૂગડાં જ માત્ર જોયાં. ત્યાં ફક્ત લૂગડાં જ પડેલા હતાં. ઈસુ નહતો. પિતરે જે થયું હતું તે સંબધી આશ્ચર્ય પામીને એકાંત માટે દૂર ચાલ્યો ગયો.

13 તે જ દિવસે શિષ્યોમાંથી બે એમ્મોસ નામના શહેરમાં જતા હતા. તે યરૂશાલેમથી લગભગ સાત માઇલ દૂર હતું.

14 તેઓ બધા સાથે જે કંઈ બનાવો બન્યા હતા તે અંગે વાતો કરતા હતા.

15 જ્યારે તેઓ આ બાબતમાં ભેગા થઈ વાતો કરતા હતા અને ચર્ચા કરતા હતા ત્યારે ઈસુ પોતે તેઓની નજીક આવીને તેઓની સાથે ચાલ્યો.

16 (પણ પેલા બે માણસોને ઈસુને ઓળખવાની દષ્ટિ નહોતી.)

17 પછી ઈસુએ કહ્યું કે, “તમે ચાલતાં ચાલતાં એકબીજાની સાથે શાની ચર્ચા કરો છો?”તે બે માણસો ઊભા રહ્યા. તેઓના ચહેરા ઘણા ઉદાસ દેખાતા હતા.

18 કલિયોપાસ નામના એકે ઉત્તર આપ્યો કે, “યરૂશાલેમમાં ફક્ત તું જ એકલો એવો માણસ હશે જે છેલ્લા થોડા દિવસો પહેલાં ત્યાં શું થયું છે તે તું જાણતો નથી.”

19 ઈસુએ તેઓને કહ્યું કે, “કયા બનાવો?”પેલા માણસોએ તેને કહ્યું કે, “તે ઈસુ વિષે જે નાસરેથનો છે. દેવ અને બધા લોકો માટે તે એક મહાન પ્રબોધક હતો. તેણે કહ્યા પ્રમાણે પરાક્રમમાં મહાન ચમત્કારો કર્યા.

20 પણ અમારા અધિકારીઓ અને મુખ્ય યાજકોએ મરણદંડ માટે તેને દૂર મોકલી દીધો. તેઓએ ઈસુને વધસ્તંભે ખીલાઓ વડે જડ્યો.

21 અમને આશા હતી કે તે એક ઈસ્ત્રાએલનો ઉદ્ધાર કરનાર થશે. પણ પછી આ બધું બન્યું. અને હવે બીજું કંઈક.આ બનાવો બન્યાને આજે ત્રીજો દિવસ છે.

22 પણ આજે અમારામાંની કેટલીએક સ્ત્રીઓએ અમને આશ્ચર્યજનક વાત કરી. આ વહેલી સવારે સ્ત્રીઓ કબર પાસે ગઇ જ્યાં ઈસુના દેહને મૂકવામાં આવ્યો હતો.

23 પણ તેઓએ ત્યાં તેનું શરીર દીઠું નહિ. તેઓએ આવીને અમને કહ્યું કે તેઓએ બે દૂતના પણ દર્શન કર્યા. દૂતોએ કહ્યું કે, “ઈસુ જીવંત છે!”

24 તેથી અમારા કેટલાએક જૂથ પણ કબર પાસે ગયા. ત્યાં સ્ત્રીઓએ કહ્યું તેવું જ હતું-કબર ખાલી હતી. અમે જોયું, પણ અમે ઈસુને જોયો નહિ.”

25 પછી ઈસુએ તે બે માણસોને કહ્યું કે, “તમે મૂર્ખ છો, અને ધીમા છો જે બધી વસ્તુઓ તમને પ્રબોધકોએ કહી છે તે સમજવા માટે વિશ્વાસ હોવો જોઈએ.

26 પ્રબોધકોએ કહ્યું હતું કે ખ્રિસ્તે તેના મહિમામાં પ્રવેશતા પહેલા આ બધું સહેવું પડશે.”

27 પછી ઈસુએ બધું સમજાવવાની શરુંઆત કરી. જે તેના સંબંધી ધર્મલેખોમાં લખાયેલું હતું. ઈસુએ મૂસાના પુસ્તકોથી શરુંઆત કરી અને પછી પ્રબોધકોએ તેના વિષે શું કહ્યું હતું તેની વાત કરી.

28 તેઓ એમ્મોસના શહેરની નજીક આવ્યા અને ઈસુએ ત્યાં રોકાઇ જવાની કોઈ યોજના ના હોય તેમ આગળ જવાનું ચાલું રાખ્યું.

29 પણ તેઓ તેને રાકવા ઈચ્છતા હતા. તેઓએ તેને આગ્રહ કર્યો, “અમારી સાથે રહે.” મોડું થયું છે લગભગ રાત્રી થઈ ગઇ છે. તેથી તે તેઓની સાથે રહેવા અંદર ગયો.

30 ઈસુ તેઓની સાથે નીચે જમવા બેઠો અને થોડી રોટલી લીધી અને તેણે ભોજન માટે સ્તુતિ કરી અને તેના ભાગ પાડ્યા. પછી તે તેઓને આપ્યા.

31 તે વખતે, તેઓને ઈસુને ઓળખવાની દષ્ટિ મળી. પણ જ્યારે તેઓએ જોયું કે તે કોણ હતો ત્યારે તે અદ્ધશ્ય થઈ ગયો.

32 બંને માણસોએ એકબીજાને કહ્યું કે, “જ્યારે ઈસુ રસ્તા પર આપણી સાથે વાત કરતો હતો ત્યારે આપણા હ્રદયમાં આગ સળગતી હતી. જ્યારે તે ધર્મલેખોના અર્થ સમજાવતો તે ઉત્સાહદાયક હતું.”

33 પછી તે બંને માણસો ઊભા થયા અને યરૂશાલેમ પાછા ફર્યા. યરૂશાલેમમાં તેઓએ ઈસુના શિષ્યોને ભેગા થયેલા જોયા. અગિયાર પ્રેરિતો અને પેલા લોકો જે તેઓની સાથે હતા.

34 તેઓએ કહ્યું કે, “પ્રભુ, ખરેખર મૃત્યુમાંથી ઊઠ્યો છે! તેણે પોતે સિમોનને દર્શન આપ્યા છે.”

35 પછી તે બે માણસોએ રસ્તા પર જે કંઈ બન્યું હતું તે બધું કહ્યું. જ્યારે ઈસુએ રોટલીના ટુકડા કર્યા ત્યારે તેઓએ ઈસુને કેવી રીતે ઓળખ્યો તે વિષે પણ વાત કરી.

36 જ્યારે તે બે માણસો આ વાત કહેતા હતા, ઈસુ પોતે શિષ્યોના સમૂહમાં ઊભો રહ્યો. ઈસુએ કહ્યું કે, “તમને શાંતિ થાઓ.”

37 શિષ્યો આશ્ચર્ય પામ્યા. તેઓ ગભરાઇ ગયા. તેઓએ વિચાર્યું કે તેઓ ભૂત જોઈ રહ્યા હતા.

38 પણ ઈસુએ કહ્યું કે, “તમે કેમ ગભરાઓ છો? તમે જે જુઓ છો તેમાં શંકા શા માટે કરો છો?

39 મારા હાથો અને પગો તરફ જુઓ. તે ખરેખર હું જ છું! મને સ્પર્શ કરો. તમે જોઈ શકશો કે મારી પાસે જીવંત શરીર છે; ભૂતને આના જેવું શરીર હોતું નથી.”

40 ઈસુએ તેઓને આમ કહ્યા પછી તેણે તેઓને તેના હાથોના અને પગોના ઘા બતાવ્યાં.

41 શિષ્યો આનંદથી આશ્ચર્યમાં પડી ગયા હતા. ઈસુ જીવતો હતો તે જોઈને તેઓ ખૂબ ખૂબ પ્રસન્ન થયા. હજુ તેઓએ જે જોયું તે માનવા તેઓ તૈયાર નહોતા. ઈસુએ તેઓને કહ્યું કે, “અહી તમારી પાસે કંઈ ખાવાનું છે?”

42 તેઓએ તેને એક રાંધેલી માછલીનો ટુકડો આપ્યો.

43 જ્યારે શિષ્યો જોતા હતા ત્યારે ઈસુએ માછલી લીધી અને તે ખાધી.

44 ઈસુએ તેઓને કહ્યું કે, “યાદ કરો જ્યારે હું તમારી સાથે હતો ત્યારે મેં એ વાતો તમને કહી હતી કે મૂસાના નિયમશાસ્ત્રમાં તથા પ્રબોધકોનાં પુસ્તકોમાં તથા ગીતશાસ્ત્રમાં મારા સંબંધી જે લખેલું છે તે બધું થવું જોઈએ.”

45 ઈસુએ ધર્મલેખો શિષ્યોને સમજાવ્યા. ઈસુએ તેના વિષે લખેલી વાતો સમજાવવામાં તેમને મદદ કરી.

46 પછી ઈસુએ તેઓને કહ્યું કે, “તે લખેલું છે કે ખ્રિસ્તને મારી નાખવામાં આવશે અને ત્રીજા દિવસે તે મૃત્યુમાંથી ઊઠશે.

47 તમે આ બધું થતા જોયું-તમે સાક્ષી છો. તમારે લોકોને જઇને કહેવું જોઈએ કે તેઓના પાપો માફ થઈ શકશે. તેઓને કહો કે તેઓએ પસ્તાવો કરવો જોઈએ અને તેઓનાં પાપો માટે દિલગીર થવું જોઈએ. જો તેઓ આમ કરશે, તો દેવ તેઓને માફ કરશે.

48 તમારે યરૂશાલેમથી શરુંઆત કરવી જોઈએ અને મારા નામે આ બાબતનો ઉપદેશ આપવો જોઈએ. આ સુવાર્તા દુનિયાના બધા લોકોને કહેવી જોઈએ.

49 ધ્યાનથી સાંભળો! મારા બાપે તમને જે વચન આપેલ છે તે હું તમને મોકલીશ. પણ જ્યાં સુધી તમે આકાશથી પરાક્રમે વેષ્ટિત થાઓ ત્યાં સુધી તમારે યરૂશાલેમમાં રહેવું જોઈએ.”

50 ઈસુ તેના શિષ્યોને યરૂશાલેમની બહાર લગભગ બેથનિયા લઈ ગયો. ઈસુએ તેના હાથ ઊંચા કર્યા અને તેના શિષ્યોને આશીર્વાદ આપ્યા.

51 જ્યારે ઈસુ તેઓને આશીર્વાદ આપતો હતો ત્યારે તેઓથી તે છૂટો પડ્યો અને આકાશમાં લઈ જવામાં આવ્યો.

52 શિષ્યોએ તેનું ભજન કર્યુ. તેઓ યરૂશાલેમમાં પાછા ફર્યા. તેઓ ખૂબ પૂર્ણ આનંદિત હતા.

53 તેઓ બધો જ સમય દેવની સ્તુતિ કરતાં, મંદિરમાં રહ્યા.

1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.

3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:

5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?

6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,

7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

8 And they remembered his words,

9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.

10 It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.

11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.

12 Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.

14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.

15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.

16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.

17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?

18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?

19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:

20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.

21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.

22 Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;

23 And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.

24 And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.

25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:

26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

28 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.

29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.

30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.

31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,

34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.

35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.

38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.

41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?

42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.

43 And he took it, and did eat before them.

44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

48 And ye are witnesses of these things.

49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
