Genesis 31:18
પછી તે તેના પિતા જયાં રહેતા હતા તે કનાન દેશમાં મેસોપોટામિયામાં જે કાંઈ મળ્યું હતું તે બધું લઈને, પોતાનાં બધાં ઢોરને હંાકતો હાંકતો પોતાના પિતા ઇસહાકને મળવા નીકળી પડયો.

જયારે ઈસહાક વૃદ્વ થયો, ત્યારે તેની આંખોની દૃષ્ટિ નબળી પડી અને તેને કઇં પણ ચોખ્ખું દેખાતું ન હતું. એક દિવસ તેણે તેના મોટા પુત્ર એસાવને બોલાવ્યો. ઈસહાકે કહ્યું, “માંરા દીકરા.”ઈસહાકને એસાવે જવાબ આપ્યો, “જી, પિતાજી, હું આ રહ્યો.”

તે પછી આ આશીર્વાદને કારણે એસાવ યાકૂબની ઘૃણા કરતો રહ્યો. તેણે મનોમન વિચાર્યુ, “માંરા પિતા જલદીથી મૃત્યુ પામશે અને હું તેનો શોક મનાવીશ. પરંતુ તે પછી હું યાકૂબને માંરી નાખીશ.” એસાવના મનમાં યાકૂબ પ્રત્યે વેરવૃત્તિ જાગી હતી.”

યાકૂબ માંમરે એટલે કિર્યાથ-આર્બા (હેબ્રોન) આગળ પોતાનો પિતા ઇસહાક હતો ત્યાં પહોંચી ગયો. આ તે જગ્યા છે, જયાં ઇબ્રાહિમ અને ઇસહાક જઈને રહ્યાં હતાં.
