હવે આમ્મોનીઓને ભાન થયું કે પોતે દાઉદની દુશ્મનાવટ વહોરી લીધી છે, એટલે તેમણે બેથ-રહોબના અને સોબાહના પ્રાંતોમાંથી 20,000 સિરિયન પાયદળને, માંઅખાહના રાજા પાસેથી 1,000 સૈનિકોને અને ટોબાના પ્રાંતમાંથી 12,000 સૈનિકોને ભાડે રાખ્યા.
