જ્યાં જ્યાં રાજાની આજ્ઞા પહોંચી ગઇ તે બધા પ્રાંતોમાં યહૂદીઓમાં શોક ફેલાઇ ગયો અને લોકો ઉપવાસ કરી રડવા લાગ્યા અને છાતી કૂટવા લાગ્યા. ઘણા તો ટાટ પહેરીને રાખ પાથરીને તેમાં સૂતાં.
