Jeremiah 41:10
ત્યારબાદ ઇશ્માએલ રાજકુમારીઓને તથા બાકી રહેલા લોકોને બંધકો તરીકે લઇ ગયો. જેઓને રક્ષક ટૂકડીના સરદાર નબૂઝારઅદાને અહીકામના પુત્ર ગદાલ્યાના તાબામાં સોપ્યાં હતાં. એ સર્વને લઇને તે આમ્મોન તરફ આગળ વધ્યો.

હવે જ્યારે વગડામાંના સૈનિકોના નેતાઓને અને તેના માણસોએ સાંભળ્યું કે, જેમને બંદીવાન તરીકે લઇ જવામાં આવ્યા નથી એવા દેશમાં બાકી રહેલા ગરીબ લોકો પર બાબિલના રાજાએ ગદાલ્યાને હાકેમ તરીકે નીમ્યો છે.

તે ઉપરાંત મોઆબ, આમ્મોન તથા અદોમમાં અને તેની પાસેના પ્રદેશોમાં વસતા યહૂદિયાના લોકોએ સાંભળ્યું કે હજુ પણ થોડા લોકો વસવાટ કરે છે, યહૂદિયામાં ગદાલ્યાને તે બધાં લોકોનો નેતા તરીકે નીમવામાં આવ્યો જેમને તે બાબિલ લઇ ગયો નથી.

પરંતુ હોરોનના સાન્બાલ્લાટે, આમ્મોની અધિકારી ટોબિયાએ તથા અરબી ગેશેમે આ સાંભળીને અમારી હાંસી કરી, અને અમારો તિરસ્કાર કરીને કહ્યું, “આ શું છે જે તમે કરી રહ્યાં છો? શું તમે રાજાની સામે બંડ કરવા ઇચ્છો છો?”

યહૂદિયાના બાકી રહેલા લોકો જેમણે મિસર જઇને વસવાનો નિર્ધાર કર્યો છે, તેમને હું હતા ન હતા કરી નાખીશ. તેઓ બધા જ મિસર દેશમાં નાશ પામશે; કોઇ યુદ્ધમાં મરશે તો કોઇ દુકાળમાં મરશે. નાનામોટા સૌ યુદ્ધમાં કે દુકાળમાં મરી પરવારશે. તેમની દશા જોઇને લોકો ભયભીત અને સ્તબ્ધ બની જશે. સૌ તેમની હાંસી અને નાલેશી કરશે, અને તેમનું નામ શાપરૂપ લેખાશે.

આથી યોહાનાન અને સૈનાનાયકોએ યહૂદિયાના બાકી રહેલા લોકોને,
