1 તિમોથી, મારા માટે તો તું દીકરા સમાન છે. ખ્રિસ્ત ઈસુમાં આપણને જે કૃપા છે તેમાં બળવાન થા.

2 મેં જે જે બાબતોનો ઉપદેશ આપ્યો છે તે તેં સાંભળ્યો છે. બીજા અનેક લોકોએ પણ એ બધું સાંભળ્યું છે. તારે એ જ બાબતો લોકોને શીખવવી જોઈએ. જે કેટલાએક લોકો પર તું વિશ્વાસ મૂકી શકે તેઓને તું એ ઉપદેશ આપ. પછી તેઓ બીજા લોકોને એ બાબતો શીખવી શકશે.

3 આપણને જે મુશ્કેલીઓ પડે છે તેમાં તું સહભાગી થા. ખ્રિસ્ત ઈસુના એક સારા સૈનિકની જેમ એ મુશ્કેલીઓ તું સ્વીકારી લે.

4 જે માણસ સૈનિક હોય તે પોતાના ઉપરી અધિકારીને ખુશ રાખવાની ઇચ્છા ધરાવે છે. તે પોતાની રોજીંદી જીવનમાં પોતાનો સમય વેડફતો નથી.

5 જો કોઇ અખાડામાં હરીફાઇમાં ઊતરે તો, નિયમોના પાલન વિના તેને ઈનામ મળતું નથી.

6 સખત પરિશ્રમ કરનાર ખેડૂતને તેના ઉગાડેલા અનાજમાંથી કેટલોક ભાગ મેળવવાનો પહેલો હક્ક છે.

7 હું જે બાબતો કહું છું તેના પર તું વિચાર કરજે. આ બધી વાતો સમજવા માટે પ્રભુ તને શક્તિ આપશે.

8 ઈસુ ખ્રિસ્તને યાદ રાખ. તે દાઉદના સંતાનનો છે. ઈસુ મૃત્યુ પામ્યો પછી તેને મૂએલામાંથી ઉઠાડવામાં આવ્યો હતો. આજ સુવાર્તા હું લોકોને કહું છું.

9 9કારણ કે એ સુવાર્તા હું કહેતો ફરું છું. તેથી હું ગુનેગારની જેમ દુ:ખ સહન કરું એમ મને ગુનેગાર વ્યક્તિની જેમ સાંકળોથી પણ બાંધી રાખ્યો છે. પરંતુ દેવનો ઉપદેશ કઈ બંધનમાં નથી.

10 તેથી આ બધી મુશ્કેલીઓ હું ધીરજપૂર્વક સ્વીકારું છું. દેવે પસંદ કરેલા બધા લોકોને મદદ કરવા ખાતર હું આ કરું છું. હું આ યાતનાઓ એટલા માટે સ્વીકારું છું. જેથી એ લોકોનું ખ્રિસ્ત ઈસુમાં તારણ થાય. તે તારણથી જે મહિના પ્રાપ્ત થાય છે તે અનંત છે.

11 આ ઉપદેશ સાચો છે:જો આપણે તેની સાથે મર્યા હોઇશું, તો તેની સાથે આપણે જીવીશું પણ ખરા.

12 જો આપણે યાતનાઓ સ્વીકારીએ, તો આપણે પણ ઈસુની સાથે રાજ કરીશું. જો આપણે ઈસુને સ્વીકારવાનો નકાર કરીએ, તો તે આપણને અપનાવવાનો નકાર કરશે.

13 આપણે જો વિશ્વાસુ નહિ હોઇએ, તો પણ તે તો વિશ્વાસુ જ રહેશે, કારણ કે તે પોતાની જાતને કદી બદલી શકતો નથી.

14 લોકોને આ બધી વાતો કહેવાનું તું ચાલુ રાખજે. અને દેવ આગળ એ લોકોને તું ચેતવજે કે તેઓ શબ્દો વિષે દલીલબાજી ન કરે. શબ્દો વિષે દલીલબાજી કરનાર કઈજ ઉપયોગી કરી શકતો નથી. અને તે સાંભળનાર લોકોનો તો સર્વનાશ થાય છે.

15 દેવ તને પસંદ કરે છે એવી પાત્રતા મેળવવા તું સર્વોત્તમ કાર્યો કર, અને તું દેવને પૂર્ણ સમર્પિત થઈ જા. પોતાના કામની બાબતમાં જે શરમ અનુભવતો નથી એવો કાર્યકર તું થા-કે જે કાર્યકર સાચા ઉપદેશનો યોગ્ય રીતે ઉપયોગ કરે છે.

16 દેવ તરફથી જે બાબતો કદી આવી જ નથી એવી વ્યર્થ વાતો કરનારા લોકોથી તું દૂર રહેજે. એવી વાતો માણસને દેવથી વધુ ને વધુ વિરૂદ્ધ કરનારી હોય છે.

17 તેઓની વાતો શરીરમાં જેમ રોગ ફેલાય છે તેમ અનિષ્ટ ફેલાવે છે. હુમનાયસ અને ફિલેતસ એવા માણસો છે.

18 તેઓએ સાચો ઉપદેશ ત્યજી દીધો છે. તેઓ તો એમ કહે છે કે મૃત્યુમાંથી લોકોનું પુનરુંત્થાન તો ક્યારનું થઈ ગયું છે. અને તેઓ બંન્ને કેટલાએક લોકોનો વિશ્વાસ નષ્ટ કરી રહ્યા છે.

19 પરંતુ દેવના અસ્તિત્વનો પાયો સદાને માટે મજબૂત છે, એ પાયા પર આ શબ્દો લખેલા છે: “જે લોકો તેના છે તેઓને પ્રભુ ઓળખે છે.”દેવની ઇમારતના પાયા પર આ શબ્દો લખેલા છે: “જે જે માણસ એમ કહેતો હોય કે તે પ્રભુમાં વિશ્વાસ ધરાવે છે, તેણે ખોટાં કામ કરવાનું છોડવું જ પડશે.”

20 મોટા ઘરોમાં સોના-ચાંદીની વસ્તુઓ હોય છે પરંતુ લાકડાની અને માટીની વસ્તુઓ પણ ત્યાં હોય છે. કેટલીક વસ્તુઓ વિશિષ્ટ હેતુ માટે વપરાય છે. બીજી અમુક વસ્તુઓ સાફસૂફી કે સ્વચ્છતા કરવા બનાવેલી હોય છે.

21 જો કોઇ વ્યક્તિ આ બધા જ દુષ્ટ કર્મોથી સ્વચ્છ બનશે તો ખાસ હેતુસર એ વ્યક્તિનો ઉપયોગ કરવામાં આવશે. એ વ્યક્તિને પવિત્ર બનાવવામાં આવશે, અને સ્વામી તેનો ઉપયોગ કરી શકશે. કોઇ પણ સારું કામ કરવા એ વ્યક્તિ તૈયાર થશે.

22 જુવાન માણસને જે ખરાબ કામો કરવાનું મન થતું હોય છે તેવી બાબતોથી તું દૂર રહેજે. યોગ્ય રીતે જ જીવન જીવવાનો અને વિશ્વાસ, પ્રેમ, અને શાંતિ પ્રાપ્ત કરવાનો તું ખૂબ પ્રયત્ન કરજે. શુદ્ધ હ્રદયથી પ્રભુમાં વિશ્વાસ ધરાવતા લોકોની સાથે રહીને તું આ બધું કરજે.

23 અક્કલ વગરની અને મૂર્ખાઇભરી દલીલબાજીથી તું દૂર રહેજે. તું જાણે છે કે આવી દલીલોમાંથી મોટી દલીલબાજી જન્મે છે.

24 પ્રભુના સેવકે તો ઝઘડવું ન જોઈએ! તેણે તો દરેક વ્યક્તિ પ્રત્યે માયાળુ થવું જોઈએ. પ્રભુના સેવકે તો એક સારા શિક્ષક થવું જોઈએ. તે સહનશીલ હોવો જોઈએ.

25 પ્રભુના સેવકે તો તેની સાથે અસંમત થતા વિરોધીઓને નમ્રતાથી ઉપદેશ કરવો જોઈએ. શક્ય છે કે દેવ એવા લોકોને પસ્તાવો કરવા દે, જેથી તેઓ સત્ય સ્વીકારી શકે.

26 શેતાને એવા લોકોને પોતાની જાળમાં ફસાવ્યા છે અને તેઓની પાસે પોતાનું ધાર્યું કરાવે છે. પરંતુ શક્ય છે કે તેઓ જાગી જાય અને સમજે કે શેતાન તેઓનો દુરુંપયોગ કરી રહ્યો છે, અને અંતે શેતાનની માયાજાળમાંથી પોતાને મુક્ત કરાવે.

1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.

7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.

10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:

12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

1 તિમોથી, મારા માટે તો તું દીકરા સમાન છે. ખ્રિસ્ત ઈસુમાં આપણને જે કૃપા છે તેમાં બળવાન થા.

2 મેં જે જે બાબતોનો ઉપદેશ આપ્યો છે તે તેં સાંભળ્યો છે. બીજા અનેક લોકોએ પણ એ બધું સાંભળ્યું છે. તારે એ જ બાબતો લોકોને શીખવવી જોઈએ. જે કેટલાએક લોકો પર તું વિશ્વાસ મૂકી શકે તેઓને તું એ ઉપદેશ આપ. પછી તેઓ બીજા લોકોને એ બાબતો શીખવી શકશે.

11 આ ઉપદેશ સાચો છે:જો આપણે તેની સાથે મર્યા હોઇશું, તો તેની સાથે આપણે જીવીશું પણ ખરા.

16 દેવ તરફથી જે બાબતો કદી આવી જ નથી એવી વ્યર્થ વાતો કરનારા લોકોથી તું દૂર રહેજે. એવી વાતો માણસને દેવથી વધુ ને વધુ વિરૂદ્ધ કરનારી હોય છે.

17 તેઓની વાતો શરીરમાં જેમ રોગ ફેલાય છે તેમ અનિષ્ટ ફેલાવે છે. હુમનાયસ અને ફિલેતસ એવા માણસો છે.

18 તેઓએ સાચો ઉપદેશ ત્યજી દીધો છે. તેઓ તો એમ કહે છે કે મૃત્યુમાંથી લોકોનું પુનરુંત્થાન તો ક્યારનું થઈ ગયું છે. અને તેઓ બંન્ને કેટલાએક લોકોનો વિશ્વાસ નષ્ટ કરી રહ્યા છે.

19 પરંતુ દેવના અસ્તિત્વનો પાયો સદાને માટે મજબૂત છે, એ પાયા પર આ શબ્દો લખેલા છે: “જે લોકો તેના છે તેઓને પ્રભુ ઓળખે છે.”દેવની ઇમારતના પાયા પર આ શબ્દો લખેલા છે: “જે જે માણસ એમ કહેતો હોય કે તે પ્રભુમાં વિશ્વાસ ધરાવે છે, તેણે ખોટાં કામ કરવાનું છોડવું જ પડશે.”

20 મોટા ઘરોમાં સોના-ચાંદીની વસ્તુઓ હોય છે પરંતુ લાકડાની અને માટીની વસ્તુઓ પણ ત્યાં હોય છે. કેટલીક વસ્તુઓ વિશિષ્ટ હેતુ માટે વપરાય છે. બીજી અમુક વસ્તુઓ સાફસૂફી કે સ્વચ્છતા કરવા બનાવેલી હોય છે.

21 જો કોઇ વ્યક્તિ આ બધા જ દુષ્ટ કર્મોથી સ્વચ્છ બનશે તો ખાસ હેતુસર એ વ્યક્તિનો ઉપયોગ કરવામાં આવશે. એ વ્યક્તિને પવિત્ર બનાવવામાં આવશે, અને સ્વામી તેનો ઉપયોગ કરી શકશે. કોઇ પણ સારું કામ કરવા એ વ્યક્તિ તૈયાર થશે.

22 જુવાન માણસને જે ખરાબ કામો કરવાનું મન થતું હોય છે તેવી બાબતોથી તું દૂર રહેજે. યોગ્ય રીતે જ જીવન જીવવાનો અને વિશ્વાસ, પ્રેમ, અને શાંતિ પ્રાપ્ત કરવાનો તું ખૂબ પ્રયત્ન કરજે. શુદ્ધ હ્રદયથી પ્રભુમાં વિશ્વાસ ધરાવતા લોકોની સાથે રહીને તું આ બધું કરજે.

23 અક્કલ વગરની અને મૂર્ખાઇભરી દલીલબાજીથી તું દૂર રહેજે. તું જાણે છે કે આવી દલીલોમાંથી મોટી દલીલબાજી જન્મે છે.

24 પ્રભુના સેવકે તો ઝઘડવું ન જોઈએ! તેણે તો દરેક વ્યક્તિ પ્રત્યે માયાળુ થવું જોઈએ. પ્રભુના સેવકે તો એક સારા શિક્ષક થવું જોઈએ. તે સહનશીલ હોવો જોઈએ.

25 પ્રભુના સેવકે તો તેની સાથે અસંમત થતા વિરોધીઓને નમ્રતાથી ઉપદેશ કરવો જોઈએ. શક્ય છે કે દેવ એવા લોકોને પસ્તાવો કરવા દે, જેથી તેઓ સત્ય સ્વીકારી શકે.
