யாத்திராகமம் 17:2
அப்பொழுது ஜனங்கள் மோசேயோடே வாதாடி: நாங்கள் குடிக்கிறதற்கு எங்களுக்குத் தண்ணீர் தரவேண்டும் என்றார்கள். அதற்கு மோசே: என்னோடே ஏன் வாதாடுகிறீர்கள், கர்த்தரை ஏன் பரீட்சை பார்க்கிறீர்கள் என்றான்.

அது கிருபையினாலே உண்டாயிருந்தால் செயல்களினாலே உண்டாயிருக்காது; அப்படியில்லை என்றால், கிருபையானது கிருபை இல்லையே. அன்றியும் அது செயல்களினாலே உண்டாயிருந்தால் அது கிருபையாக இருக்காது; அப்படியில்லை என்றால் செய்கையானது செய்கை இல்லையே.

தேவன் தன் மக்களைக் கருணையால் தேர்ந்தெடுத்துள்ளதால் அது அவர்களது செய்கைகளால் அல்ல என்றாகிறது. தேவன் மக்களை அவர் தம் செய்கைகளால் தேர்ந்தெடுத்திருந்தால் அது கருணையால் அல்ல என்றும், செயல்களினிமித்தம் காட்டப்படும் கருணை உண்மையான பரிசாகாது என்றும் தெரிகிறது.
