பிரதானிகளின் தலைவன் தானியேலை நோக்கி உங்களுக்குப் போஜனத்தையும் பானத்தையும் குறித்திருக்கிற ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனுக்கு நான் பயப்படுகிறேன்; அவர் உங்களோடொத்த வாலிபரின் முகங்களைப்பார்க்கிலும் உங்கள் முகங்கள் வாடிப்போனவைகளாகக் காணவேண்டியதென்ன? அதினால் ராஜா என்னைச் சிரச்சேதம்பண்ணுவாரே என்றான்.

ஆனால் அஸ்பேனாஸ் தானியேலிடம், “நான் என் அரசரான எஜமானருக்குப் பயப்படுகிறேன். அரசர் இந்த உணவையும், திராட்சைரசத்தையும் உனக்குத் தரும்படி கட்டளையிட்டிருக்கிறார். நீ இந்த உணவை உண்ணாவிட்டால், பலவீனமுடையவனாகவும், நோயாளியாகவும் ஆவாய். நீ உன் வயதுள்ள மற்ற இளைஞர்களைவிட மோசமான நிலையில் இருப்பாய். அரசர் இதனைப் பார்த்து என் மீது கோபங்கொள்வார். அவர் என் தலையை வெட்டிவிடலாம், ஆதற்கு உனது தவறே காரணமாகும்” என்று சொன்னான்.
