1 எப்பிராயீம் மலைத்தேசத்திலிருக்கிற சேரப்பீம் என்னப்பட்ட ராமதாயீம் ஊரானாகிய ஒரு மனுஷன் இருந்தான்; அவனுக்கு எல்க்கானா என்று பேர்; அவன் எப்பிராயீமியனாகிய சூப்புக்குப் பிறந்த தோகுவின் குமாரனாகிய எலிகூவின் மகனான எரோகாமின் புத்திரன். Now there was a certain man of Ramathaimzophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:

2 அவனுக்கு இரண்டு மனைவிகள் இருந்தார்கள்; ஒருத்திபேர் அன்னாள், மற்றவள்பேர் பெனின்னாள்; பெனின்னாளுக்குப் பிள்ளைகள் இருந்தார்கள்; அன்னாளுக்கோ பிள்ளை இல்லை. And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

3 அந்த மனுஷன் சீலோவிலே சேனைகளின் கர்த்தரைப் பணிந்து கொள்ளவும் அவருக்குப் பலியிடவும் வருஷந்தோறும் தன் ஊரிலிருந்து போய்வருவான்; அங்கே கர்த்தரின் ஆசாரியரான ஏலியின் இரண்டு குமாரராகிய ஓப்னியும் பினெகாசும் இருந்தார்கள். And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.

4 அங்கே எல்க்கானா பலியிடும் நாளிலே, அவன் தன் மனைவியாகிய பெனின்னாளுக்கும், அவளுடைய எல்லாக் குமாரருக்கும் குமாரத்திகளுக்கும், பங்கு போட்டுக் கொடுப்பான். And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:

5 அன்னாளைச் சிநேகித்தபடியினால், அவளுக்கு இரட்டிப்பான பங்கு கொடுப்பான்; கர்த்தரோ அவள் கர்ப்பத்தை அடைத்திருந்தார். But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.

6 கர்த்தர் அவள் கர்ப்பத்தை அடைத்தபடியினால், அவளுடைய சக்களத்தி அவள் துக்கப்படும்படியாக அவளை மிகவும் விசனப்படுத்துவாள். And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.

7 அவள் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்திற்குப் போகும் சமயத்தில், அவன் வருஷந்தோறும் அந்தப்பிரகாரமாய்ச் செய்வான்; இவள் அவளை மனமடிவாக்குவாள்; அப்பொழுது அவள் சாப்பிடாமல் அழுதுகொண்டிருப்பாள். And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.

8 அவன் புருஷனாகிய எல்க்கானா அவளைப் பார்த்து: அன்னாளே, ஏன் அழுகிறாய்? ஏன் சாப்பிடாதிருக்கிறாய்? ஏன் சஞ்சலப்படுகிறாய்? பத்துக் குமாரரைப்பார்க்கிலும் நான் உனக்கு அதிகமல்லவா என்றான். Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?

9 சீலோவிலே அவர்கள் புசித்துக் குடித்தபின்பு, அன்னாள் எழுந்திருந்தாள்; ஆசாரியனாகிய ஏலி கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்தின் வாசல் நிலையண்டையிலே ஒரு ஆசனத்தின்மேல் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான். So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.

10 அவள் போய், மனங்கசந்து, மிகவும் அழுது, கர்த்தரை நோக்கி விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணி: And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.

And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

12 அவள் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் வெகுநேரம் விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணுகிறபோது, ஏலி அவள் வாயைக் கவனித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தான். And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.

13 அன்னாள் தன் இருதயத்திலே பேசினாள்; அவளுடைய உதடுகள் மாத்திரம் அசைந்தது, அவள் சத்தமோ கேட்கப்படவில்லை; ஆகையால் அவள் வெறித்திருக்கிறாள் என்று ஏலி நினைத்து, Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.

14 அவளை நோக்கி: நீ எதுவரைக்கும் வெறித்திருப்பாய்? உன் குடியை உன்னைவிட்டு விலக்கு என்றான். And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.

15 அதற்கு அன்னாள் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: அப்படியல்ல, என் ஆண்டவனே, நான் மனக்கிலேசமுள்ள ஸ்திரீ; நான் திராட்சரசமாகிலும் மதுவாகிலும் குடிக்கவில்லை; நான் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் என் இருதயத்தை ஊற்றிவிட்டேன். And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.

16 உம்முடைய அடியாளைப் பேலியாளின் மகளாக எண்ணாதேயும்; மிகுதியான விசாரத்தினாலும் கிலேசத்தினாலும் இந்நேரமட்டும் விண்ணப்பம் பண்ணினேன் என்றாள். Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.

17 அதற்கு ஏலி சமாதானத்துடனே போ; நீ இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனிடத்தில் கேட்ட உன் விண்ணப்பத்தின்படி அவர் உனக்குக் கட்டளையிடுவாராக என்றான். Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

18 அப்பொழுது அவள்: உம்முடைய அடியாளுக்கு உம்முடைய கண்களிலே தயைகிடைக்கக்கடவது என்றாள்; பின்பு அந்த ஸ்திரீ புறப்பட்டுப்போய், போஜனஞ்செய்தாள்; அப்புறம் அவள் துக்கமுகமாயிருக்கவில்லை. And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.

19 அவர்கள் அதிகாலையில் எழுந்து, கர்த்தரைப் பணிந்துகொண்டு, ராமாவிலிருக்கிற தங்கள் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போனார்கள்; எல்க்கானா தன்மனைவியாகிய அன்னாளை அறிந்தான்; கர்த்தர் அவளை நினைந்தருளினார். And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.

20 சிலநாள் சென்றபின்பு அன்னாள் கர்ப்பவதியாகி, ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்று, கர்த்தரிடத்தில் அவனைக் கேட்டேன் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு சாமுவேல் என்று பேரிட்டாள். Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.

21 எல்க்கானா என்பவன் கர்த்தருக்கு வருஷாந்தரம் செலுத்தும் பலியையும் தன் பொருத்தனையையும் செலுத்தும்படியாக, தன் வீட்டார் அனைவரோடுங்கூடப் போனான். And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.

22 அன்னாள் கூடப்போகவில்லை; அவள்: பிள்ளை பால்மறந்த பின்பு, அவன் கர்த்தரின் சந்நிதியிலே காணப்படவும், அங்கே எப்பொழுதும் இருக்கவும், நான் அவனைக் கொண்டுபோய் விடுவேன் என்று தன் புருஷனிடத்தில் சொன்னாள். But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.

23 அப்பொழுது அவள் புருஷனாகிய எல்க்கானா அவளை நோக்கி: நீ உன் இஷ்டப்படி செய்து, அவனைப் பால் மறக்கப்பண்ணுமட்டும் இரு; கர்த்தர் தம்முடைய வார்த்தையைமாத்திரம் நிறைவேற்றுவாராக என்றான்; அப்படியே அந்த ஸ்திரீ தன் பிள்ளையைப் பால் மறக்கப்பண்ணுமட்டும் அதற்கு முலைகொடுத்தாள். And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.

24 அவள் அவனைப் பால்மறக்கப்பண்ணினபின்பு, மூன்று காளைகளையும், ஒரு மரக்கால் மாவையும், ஒரு துருத்தி திராட்சரசத்தையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, அவனையும் கூட்டிக் கொண்டு, சீலோவிலிருக்கிற கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்துக்குப் போனாள்; பிள்ளை இன்னும் குழந்தையாயிருந்தது. And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young.

25 அவர்கள் ஒரு காளையைப் பலியிட்டு, பிள்ளையை ஏலியினிடத்தில் கொண்டுவந்து விட்டார்கள். And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.

26 அப்பொழுது அவள்: என் ஆண்டவனே, இங்கே உம்மண்டையிலே நின்று கர்த்தரை நோக்கி விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணின ஸ்திரீ நான் தான் என்று என் ஆண்டவனாகிய உம்முடைய ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன். And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD.

27 இந்தப் பிள்ளைக்காக விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணினேன்; நான் கர்த்தரிடத்தில் கேட்ட என் விண்ணப்பத்தின்படி எனக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டார். For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:

28 ஆகையால் அவன் கர்த்தருக்கென்று கேட்கப்பட்டபடியினால், அவன் உயிரோடிருக்கும் சகல நாளும் அவனைக் கர்த்தருக்கே ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கிறேன் என்றாள்; அவன் அங்கே கர்த்தரைப் பணிந்துகொண்டான். Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

1 Eppiraayeem malaiththaesaththilirukkira serappeem ennappatta raamathaayeem ooraanaakiya oru manushan irunthaan; avanukku elkkaanaa entu paer; avan eppiraayeemiyanaakiya sooppukkup pirantha thokuvin kumaaranaakiya elikoovin makanaana erokaamin puththiran. Now there was a certain man of Ramathaimzophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:

2 Avanukku iranndu manaivikal irunthaarkal; oruththipaer annaal, mattavalpaer peninnaal; peninnaalukkup pillaikal irunthaarkal; annaalukko pillai illai. And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

3 Antha manushan seelovilae senaikalin karththaraip panninthu kollavum avarukkup paliyidavum varushanthoraுm than oorilirunthu poyvaruvaan; angae karththarin aasaariyaraana aeliyin iranndu kumaararaakiya opniyum pinekaasum irunthaarkal. And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.

4 Angae elkkaanaa paliyidum naalilae, avan than manaiviyaakiya peninnaalukkum, avalutaiya ellaak kumaararukkum kumaaraththikalukkum, pangu pottuk koduppaan. And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:

5 Annaalaich sinaekiththapatiyinaal, avalukku irattippaana pangu koduppaan; karththaro aval karppaththai ataiththirunthaar. But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.

6 Karththar aval karppaththai ataiththapatiyinaal, avalutaiya sakkalaththi aval thukkappadumpatiyaaka avalai mikavum visanappaduththuvaal. And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.

7 Aval karththarutaiya aalayaththirkup pokum samayaththil, avan varushanthoraுm anthappirakaaramaaych seyvaan; ival avalai manamativaakkuvaal; appoluthu aval saappidaamal aluthukonntiruppaal. And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.

8 Avan purushanaakiya elkkaanaa avalaip paarththu: annaalae, aen alukiraay? Aen saappidaathirukkiraay? Aen sanjalappadukiraay? Paththuk kumaararaippaarkkilum naan unakku athikamallavaa entan. Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?

9 Seelovilae avarkal pusiththuk kutiththapinpu, annaal elunthirunthaal; aasaariyanaakiya aeli karththarutaiya aalayaththin vaasal nilaiyanntaiyilae oru aasanaththinmael utkaarnthirunthaan. So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.

11 Senaikalin karththaavae, thaevareer ummutaiya atiyaalin siraுmaiyaik kannnnokkip paarththu, ummutaiya atiyaalai maravaamal ninaintharuli, umathu atiyaalukku oru aannpillaiyaik koduththaal, avan uyirotirukkum sakala naalum naan avanaik karththarukku oppukkoduppaen; avan thalaiyinmael savarakan kaththi paduvathillai entu oru poruththanai pannnninaal. And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

12 Aval karththarutaiya sannithiyil vekunaeram vinnnappampannnukirapothu, aeli aval vaayaik kavaniththukkonntirunthaan. And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.

13 Annaal than iruthayaththilae paesinaal; avalutaiya uthadukal maaththiram asainthathu, aval saththamo kaetkappadavillai; aakaiyaal aval veriththirukkiraal entu aeli ninaiththu, Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.

14 Avalai Nnokki: nee ethuvaraikkum veriththiruppaay? Un kutiyai unnaivittu vilakku entan. And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.

15 Atharku annaal pirathiyuththaramaaka: appatiyalla, en aanndavanae, naan manakkilaesamulla sthiree; naan thiraatcharasamaakilum mathuvaakilum kutikkavillai; naan karththarutaiya sannithiyil en iruthayaththai oottivittaேn. And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.

16 Ummutaiya atiyaalaip paeliyaalin makalaaka ennnnaathaeyum; mikuthiyaana visaaraththinaalum kilaesaththinaalum innaeramattum vinnnappam pannnninaen ental. Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.

17 Atharku aeli samaathaanaththudanae po; nee isravaelin thaevanidaththil kaetta un vinnnappaththinpati avar unakkuk kattalaiyiduvaaraaka entan. Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

18 Appoluthu aval: ummutaiya atiyaalukku ummutaiya kannkalilae thayaikitaikkakkadavathu ental; pinpu antha sthiree purappattuppoy, pojananjaெythaal; appuram aval thukkamukamaayirukkavillai. And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.

19 Avarkal athikaalaiyil elunthu, karththaraip panninthukonndu, raamaavilirukkira thangal veettukkuth thirumpipponaarkal; elkkaanaa thanmanaiviyaakiya annaalai arinthaan; Karththar avalai ninaintharulinaar. And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.

20 Silanaal sentapinpu annaal karppavathiyaaki, oru kumaaranaip pettaு, karththaridaththil avanaik kaettaேn entu solli, avanukku saamuvael entu paerittal. Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.

21 Elkkaanaa enpavan karththarukku varushaantharam seluththum paliyaiyum than poruththanaiyaiyum seluththumpatiyaaka, than veettar anaivarodungaூdap ponaan. And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.

22 Annaal koodappokavillai; aval: pillai paalmarantha pinpu, avan karththarin sannithiyilae kaanappadavum, angae eppoluthum irukkavum, naan avanaik konndupoy viduvaen entu than purushanidaththil sonnaal. But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.

23 Appoluthu aval purushanaakiya elkkaanaa avalai Nnokki: nee un ishdappati seythu, avanaip paal marakkappannnumattum iru; Karththar thammutaiya vaarththaiyaimaaththiram niraivaettaுvaaraaka entan; appatiyae antha sthiree than pillaiyaip paal marakkappannnumattum atharku mulaikoduththaal. And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.

24 Aval avanaip paalmarakkappannnninapinpu, moontu kaalaikalaiyum, oru marakkaal maavaiyum, oru thuruththi thiraatcharasaththaiyum eduththukkonndu, avanaiyum koottik konndu, seelovilirukkira karththarutaiya aalayaththukkup ponaal; pillai innum kulanthaiyaayirunthathu. And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young.

25 Avarkal oru kaalaiyaip paliyittu, pillaiyai aeliyinidaththil konnduvanthu vittarkal. And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.

26 Appoluthu aval: en aanndavanae, ingae ummanntaiyilae nintu karththarai Nnokki vinnnappampannnnina sthiree naan thaan entu en aanndavanaakiya ummutaiya jeevanaikkonndu sollukiraேn. And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD.

27 Inthap pillaikkaaka vinnnappampannnninaen; naan karththaridaththil kaetta en vinnnappaththinpati enakkuk kattalaiyittar. For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:

28 Aakaiyaal avan karththarukkentu kaetkappattapatiyinaal, avan uyirotirukkum sakala naalum avanaik karththarukkae oppukkodukkiraேn ental; avan angae karththaraip panninthukonndaan. Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.
