Joshua 20
1 তারপর প্রভু যিহোশূয়কে বললেন,
2 “আমি তোমাকে আদেশ দেবার জন্য মোশিকে ব্যবহার করেছিলাম| মোশি তোমাকে কয়েকটি শহর বাছতে বলেছিলেন য়েগুলো আশ্রয় দেবার জন্য বিশেষ শহর হিসেবে অভিহিত হবে|
3 যদি কোন ব্যক্তি অন্য কাউকে অকস্মাত্ অনিচ্ছাকৃতভাবে হত্যা করে তাহলে সে ঐ নিরাপদ শহরগুলির একটিতে গিয়ে লুকিয়ে থাকতে পারবে, য়েন প্রতিশোধ দাতা খুঁজে না পায়|
4 “লোকটিকে যা করতে হবে তা এই: যখন সে ঐ ধরণের কোন শহরে ছুটে পালিয়ে যাবে তখন সেই শহরের প্রবেশ দ্বারে তাকে থামতে হবে| থেমে সেখানকার দলপতিদের কাছে জানাতে হবে ঘটনাটা কি হয়েছিল| সেই সব শুনে তারা তাকে শহরে ঢুকতে দিতে পারে| সেখানে থাকার জন্য তারা তাকে জায়গা দেবে|
5 কিন্তু য়ে ঐ ব্যক্তিটির পেছনে ধাওযা করবে সে হয়তো শহরে এসে তার পিছু নিতে পারে| এরকম ঘটলে নেতারা য়েন তাকে তাড়া করা ব্যক্তিটির হাতে ধরিযে না দেয়| তারা আশ্রয়প্রার্থীকে নিশ্চয়ই রক্ষা করবে| তারা এই কারণেই তাকে রক্ষা করবে য়ে, সে ইচ্ছা করে কাউকে হত্যা করে নি| সেটা নিছকই একটা দুর্ঘটনা| সে রেগে গিয়ে কাউকে হত্যা করবে বলে হত্যা করে নি| এটা হঠাত্ই ঘটে গেছে|
6 যতদিন না শহরের বিচার সভায তার বিচার হয় ততদিন সেই ব্যক্তি সেখানে থাকবে| মহাযাজক যতদিন বেঁচে থাকবেন ততদিন সে সেখানে থাকতে পারবে| তারপর সে তার নিজের শহরে অর্থাত্ য়েখান থেকে সে পালিয়ে গিয়েছিল সেখানে নিজের বাড়ীতে ফিরে যাবে|”
7 তাই ইস্রায়েলবাসীরা কয়েকটা শহর ঠিক করে নিয়েছিল| তারা এগুলোর নাম দিল, “নিরাপত্তার শহর|” শহরগুলো হচ্ছে:নপ্তালি পার্বত্য অঞ্চলের গালীলের অন্তর্গত কেদশ; ইফ্রয়িমের পার্বত্য অঞ্চলের শিখিম; যিহূদা পার্বত্য অঞ্চলের কিরিযত্-অর্ব (হিব্রোণ);
8 রূবেণের মরু অঞ্চলের অন্তর্গত য়িরীহোর কাছে যর্দন নদীর পূর্বদিকে বেত্সর; গাদ দেশে গিলিয়দের অন্তর্গত রামোত্; মনঃশির দেখে বাশনের অন্তর্গত গোলন|
1 The Lord also spake unto Joshua, saying,
2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:
3 That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.
4 And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.
5 And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand; because he smote his neighbour unwittingly, and hated him not beforetime.
6 And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.
7 And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjath-arba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah.
8 And on the other side Jordan by Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

The Lord also spake unto Joshua, saying,

Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.
5 কিন্তু য়ে ঐ ব্যক্তিটির পেছনে ধাওযা করবে সে হয়তো শহরে এসে তার পিছু নিতে পারে| এরকম ঘটলে নেতারা য়েন তাকে তাড়া করা ব্যক্তিটির হাতে ধরিযে না দেয়| তারা আশ্রয়প্রার্থীকে নিশ্চয়ই রক্ষা করবে| তারা এই কারণেই তাকে রক্ষা করবে য়ে, সে ইচ্ছা করে কাউকে হত্যা করে নি| সেটা নিছকই একটা দুর্ঘটনা| সে রেগে গিয়ে কাউকে হত্যা করবে বলে হত্যা করে নি| এটা হঠাত্ই ঘটে গেছে|

6 যতদিন না শহরের বিচার সভায তার বিচার হয় ততদিন সেই ব্যক্তি সেখানে থাকবে| মহাযাজক যতদিন বেঁচে থাকবেন ততদিন সে সেখানে থাকতে পারবে| তারপর সে তার নিজের শহরে অর্থাত্ য়েখান থেকে সে পালিয়ে গিয়েছিল সেখানে নিজের বাড়ীতে ফিরে যাবে|”
