অনেক দেশের এবং অনেক ভাষার লোকরা নবূখদ্নিত্সরকে ভয় পেত| কেন? কারণ পরাত্পর তাঁকে এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ রাজা বানিয়েছিলেন| নবূখদ্নিত্সর কাউকে মারতে চাইলে মেরে ফেলতেন আর বাঁচিয়ে রাখতে চাইলে বাঁচিয়ে রাখতেন| তিনি যাদের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ করতে চাইতেন তাদের করতেন এবং তিনি যাদের গুরুত্বহীন করতে চাইতেন তাদের গুরুত্বহীন করতেন|

সুতরাং সিদিকিযের শাসনের নবমতম বছরের দশম মাসের দশম দিনে বাবিলের রাজা নবূখদ্রিত্সর জেরুশালেম আক্রমণ করেন| বাবিলের রাজার সঙ্গে তাঁর সমস্ত সেনাবাহিনী ছিল| তারা জেরুশালেমের বাইরে অস্থায়ী শিবির গড়ে| তারপর তারা উঁচু প্রাচীরের মত বাঁধ তৈরী করল যাতে এই প্রাচীরগুলির ওপর উঠে অনায়াসে জেরুশালেমে প্রবেশ করা যায়|

এই ভাবে জেরুশালেম দখল হল: যিহূদার ওপর রাজা সিদিকিয়র নবম বছরের রাজত্বের দশম মাসে বাবিলের রাজা নবূখদ্রিত্সর তাঁর সৈন্যবাহিনীসহ জেরুশালেম শহর অধিগ্রহণের জন্য বেরিয়েছিলেন| তারা শহরটিকে অধিকার করবার জন্য তাকে ঘিরে ফেলেছিল|

তখন বাবিলের রাজা জেরুশালেমের বিরুদ্ধে সৈন্যসামন্ত নিয়ে যুদ্ধ করছে| যিহূদার য়ে সমস্ত শহরগুলি তখনও অধিকৃত হয়নি সেগুলি অধিকার করবার লক্ষ্য নিয়ে বাবিলের সৈন্যদল যুদ্ধ করছিল| ঐ শহরগুলি ছিল লাখীশ এবং অসেকা- দুটি শহর য়েগুলি দুর্গদ্বারা রক্ষিত ছিল|
Jeremiah 27:5
তোমাদের মনিবকে গিয়ে বলো আমি এই পৃথিবী এবং তার মানুষদের সৃষ্টি করেছি| এই পৃথিবীর সমস্ত পশু পাখীও আমার সৃষ্টি| আমি আমার শক্তি এবং শক্তিশালী বাহু দিয়ে তা সৃষ্টি করেছি| আমি যাকে খুশী এই পৃথিবী দিয়ে দিতে পারি|

সিদিকিযও প্রভুর ইচ্ছা অনুসারে জীবনযাপন না করে তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে পাপাচরণ করেছিলেন| ভাব্বাদী য়িরমিয তাঁকে প্রভুর প্রেরিত সতর্কবাণী শোনালেও সিদিকিয তাতে কর্ণপাত করেন নি বা নম্র ও ধার্মিকভাবে জীবনযাপন করেন নি|

তাই বাবিল-রাজ নবূখদ্নিত্সর, তাঁর সমস্ত সেনাবাহিনী নিয়ে জেরুশালেমের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করতে এলেন| সিদিকিয়র রাজত্ব কালের নবম বছরের 10 মাসের 10 দিনে এই ঘটনা ঘটেছিল| জেরুশালেম শহরে যাতাযাত বন্ধ করতে নবূখদ্নিত্সর শহরের চারপাশে তাঁর সেনাবাহিনী মোতাযেন করে একটা দেওয়াল বানিয়ে শহরটা অবরোধ করেছিলেন|
