যিহূদার য়ে সব মানুষ মোয়াব, অম্মোন, ইদোম এবং অন্যান্য দেশে চলে গিয়েছিল তারা শুনতে পেলো য়ে বাবিলের রাজা যিহূদার কিছু গরীব লোককে বন্দী করে না নিয়ে গিয়ে যিহূদাতেই বাস করতে দিয়েছে এবং তারা জানতে পারল য়ে সে গদলিয়কে সেই লোকদের রাজ্যপাল নির্বাচিত করেছে|

তারা যিরমিয়কে উপাসনালয চত্বরে খুঁজে পেয়েছিল| সেখানে তাকে নজরবন্দী করে রেখেছিল যিহূদার রাজার রক্ষীরা| ঐ আধিকারিকরা যিরমিয়কে গদলিযের হাতে তুলে দিয়েছিল| গদলিয় ছিল অহীকামের পুত্র এবং শাফনের পৌত্র| গদলিয়কে নির্দেশ দেওয়া ছিল যিরমিয়কে তার নিজের বাড়িতে পৌঁছে দেওয়ার জন্য| সুতরাং যিরমিয় তার নিজের বাড়িতে পরিবারের কাছে ফিরে এসেছিল|

বাবিল-রাজ নবূখদ্নিত্সর কিছু লোককে যিহূদায় রেখে গিয়েছিলেন| তিনি শাফনের পৌত্র অহীকামের পুত্র গদলিযকে এই সমস্ত লোকদের শাসন করার জন্য শাসক হিসেবে যিহূদায় বসিযে যান|

তারপর আমি লক্ষ্য করে দেখলাম যে শাফনের পুত্র যাসনিয় ও ইস্রায়েলের আরো 70 জন প্রবীণ সে স্থানে লোকদের সঙ্গে পূজা করছিল| তারা লোকদের সামনেই দাঁড়িয়েছিল| আর প্রত্যেক নেতার কাছে ছিল তার নিজের ধূপদানী| জ্বলা ধূপের ধোঁযার সেই সুগন্ধ উপরে উঠছিল|
