நாளொன்றுக்கு ஒரு காளையும், முதல் தரமான ஆறு ஆடும் சமைக்கப்பட்டது; பட்சிகளும் சமைக்கப்பட்டது; பத்துநாளைக்கு ஒருதரம் நானாவிதத் திராட்சரசமும் செலவழிந்தது. இப்படியெல்லாம் இருந்தபோதும், இந்த ஜனங்கள் பட்டபாடு கடினமாயிருந்தபடியால், அதிபதிகள் வாங்குகிற படியை நான் வாங்கவில்லை.

ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் நான் இவ்வளவு உணவு தான் எனது பந்தியில் பரிமாறவேண்டும் என்று தீர்மானித்தேன். ஒரு பசு, ஆறு நல்ல ஆடு, பல வகை பறவைகள் ஆகியவை. பத்து நாட்களுக்கு ஒருமுறை எனது பந்தியில் எல்லாவகை திராட்சைரசமும் கொண்டு வரவேண்டும். எனினும் நான் ஆளுநருக்கு ஒதுக்கப்படவேண்டிய உணவே வேண்டுமென வற்புறுத்தியதில்லை. எனது உணவுக்காகச் செலுத்த வேண்டிய வரியைச் செலுத்துமாறு நான் ஜனங்களை எப்பொழுதும் வற்புறுத்தியதில்லை. ஜனங்கள் மிகவும் கஷ்டப்பட்டு வேலைச் செய்கிறார்கள் என்பதை நான் அறிவேன்.
