12 தாவீது என்பவன் யூதாவிலுள்ள பெத்லெகேம் ஊரானாகிய ஈசாய் என்னும் பேருள்ள எப்பிராத்திய மனுஷனுடைய குமாரனாயிருந்தான்; ஈசாயுக்கு எட்டுக்குமாரர் இருந்தார்கள்; இவன் சவுலின் நாட்களிலே மற்ற ஜனங்களுக்குள்ளே வயதுசென்ற கிழவனாய் மதிக்கப்பட்டான். Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehemjudah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man went among men for an old man in the days of Saul.

16 அந்தப் பெலிஸ்தன் காலையிலும் மாலையிலும் நாற்பதுநாள் வந்துவந்து நிற்பான். And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.

20 தாவீது அதிகாலையில் எழுந்து, ஆடுகளைக் காவலாளி வசமாய் விட்டு, ஈசாய் தனக்குக் கற்பித்தபடியே எடுத்துக்கொண்டுபோய், இரதங்கள் இருக்கிற இடத்திலே வந்தான்; சேனைகள் அணிவகுத்து நின்று, யுத்தத்திற்கென்று ஆர்ப்பரித்தார்கள். And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle.

21 இஸ்ரவேலரும் பெலிஸ்தரும் ஒருவருக்கு எதிராக ஒருவர் அணிவகுத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். For Israel and the Philistines had put the battle in array, army against army.

22 அப்பொழுது தாவீது: தான் கொண்டுவந்தவைகளை இறக்கி, ரஸ்துக்களைக் காக்கிறவன் வசமாக வைத்து விட்டு, சேனைக்குள் ஓடி, தன் சகோதரரைப் பார்த்து: சுகமாயிருக்கிறீர்களா என்று கேட்டான். And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brethren.

I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.

29 அதற்குத் தாவீது: நான் இப்பொழுது செய்தது என்ன? நான் வந்ததற்கு முகாந்தரம் இல்லையா என்று சொல்லி, And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?

30 அவனை விட்டு, வேறொருவனிடத்தில் திரும்பி, அந்தப்பிரகாரமாகவே கேட்டான்; ஜனங்கள் முன்போலவே உத்தரவு சொன்னார்கள். And he turned from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.

31 தாவீது சொன்ன வார்த்தைகளை அவர்கள் கேட்டு, அதைச் சவுலின் சமுகத்தில் அறிவித்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது அவன் அவனை அழைப்பித்தான். And when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him.

33 அப்பொழுது சவுல் தாவீதை நோக்கி: நீ இந்தப் பெலிஸ்தனோடே எதிர்த்து யுத்தம் பண்ண உன்னால் ஆகாது; நீ இளைஞன், அவனோ தன் சிறு வயதுமுதல் யுத்தவீரன் என்றான். And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.

Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.

David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.

And the three eldest sons of Jesse went and followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.

14 David ellaarukkum ilaiyavan; mooththavarkalaakiya antha moontupaerum savulotaekoodap poyirunthaarkal. And David was the youngest: and the three eldest followed Saul.

15 David savulaivittuth thirumpip poy pethlekaemilirukkira than thakappanutaiya aadukalai maeyththukkonntirunthaan. But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem.

16 Anthap pelisthan kaalaiyilum maalaiyilum naarpathunaal vanthuvanthu nirpaan. And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.

20 David athikaalaiyil elunthu, aadukalaik kaavalaali vasamaay vittu, eesaay thanakkuk karpiththapatiyae eduththukkonndupoy, irathangal irukkira idaththilae vanthaan; senaikal annivakuththu nintu, yuththaththirkentu aarppariththaarkal. And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brethren.

23 Avan ivarkalotae paesikkonntirukkaiyil, itho, kaath ooraanaakiya koliyaath ennum paerulla anthap pelistha veeran pelistharin senaikalilirunthu elumpivanthu nintu, mun sonna vaarththaikalaiyae sonnaan; athaith David kaettan. And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel.

26 Appoluthu David thannanntaiyilae nirkiravarkalaip paarththu, inthap pelisthanaik kontu isravaelukku naeritta ninthaiyai neekkukiravanukku enna seyyappadum; jeevanulla thaevanutaiya senaikalai ninthikkiratharku viruththasethanam illaatha intha pelisthan emmaaththiram entan. And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?

27 Atharku janangal: avanaik kollukiravanukku inna innapati seyyappadum entu mun sonna vaarththaikalaiyae avanukkuch sonnaarkal. And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.

28 Antha manusharotae avan paesikkonntirukkirathai avan mooththa sakotharanaakiya eliyaap kaettapothu, avan thaaveethinmael kopangaொnndu: nee ingae vanthathu enna? Vanaantharaththilulla anthak konja aadukalai nee yaar vasaththil vittay? Yuththaththaip paarkka allavaa vanthaay? Un thunnikaraththaiyum, un iruthayaththin akangaaraththaiyum naan arivaen entan. And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? 29 Atharkuth David: naan ippoluthu seythathu enna? Naan vanthatharku mukaantharam illaiyaa entu solli, And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?

30 Avanai vittu, vaeroruvanidaththil thirumpi, anthappirakaaramaakavae kaettan; janangal munpolavae uththaravu sonnaarkal. And he turned from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.

31 David sonna vaarththaikalai avarkal kaettu, athaich savulin samukaththil ariviththaarkal; appoluthu avan avanai alaippiththaan. And when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him.

32 David savulai Nnokki: ivanimiththam oruvanutaiya iruthayamum kalanga vaenntiyathillai; ummutaiya atiyaanaakiya naan poy, inthap pelisthanotae yuththampannnuvaen entan. And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.

33 Appoluthu savul thaaveethai Nnokki: nee inthap pelisthanotae ethirththu yuththam pannna unnaal aakaathu; nee ilainjan, avano than siraு vayathumuthal yuththaveeran entan. And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.

34 David savulaippaarththu: ummutaiya atiyaan en thakappanutaiya aadukalai maeyththukkonntirukkira pothu, oruvisai oru singamum oru visai oru karatiyum vanthu, manthaiyilirukkira oru aattaைp pitiththukkonndathu. And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:

35 Naan athaith thodarnthupoy, athai atiththu, athai athin vaaykkuth thappuviththaen; athu enmael paayntha pothu, naan athin thaatiyaip pitiththu, athai atiththuk kontupottaேn. And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.

36 Anthach singaththaiyum anthak karatiyaiyum ummutaiya atiyaanaakiya naan konten; viruththasethanamillaatha inthap pelisthanum avaikalil ontaippola iruppaan; avan jeevanulla thaevanutaiya senaikalai ninthiththaanae entan. 37 Pinnum David: ennaich singaththin kaikkum karatiyin kaikkum thappuviththa Karththar inthap pelisthanutaiya kaikkum thappuvippaar entan; appoluthu savul thaaveethaip paarththu: po, Karththar unnudanaekooda iruppaaraaka entan. David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

38 Savul Davidkkuth than vasthirangalai uduththuviththu, vennkalamaana oru seeraavai avan thalaiyinmael pottu, oru kavasaththaiyum avanukkuth tharippiththaan. And Saul armed David with his armor, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.

39 Avanutaiya pattayaththai David than vasthirangalmael kattikkonndu, athilae avanukkup palakkamillaathathinaal nadanthupaarththaan; appoluthu David savulai Nnokki: naan ivaikalaip pottukkonndu pokak koodaathu; intha appiyaasam enakku illai entu solli, avaikalaik kalainthupottu, And David girded his sword upon his armor, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it.
